Leaving My Home Town - Pinelands (SA) to Titirangi (NZ): Celebrating Five Fabulous Years in NZ

http://leavingmyhometown.blogspot.com/2014/12/celebrating-five-years-in-nz.html

Leaving My Home Town - Pinelands (SA) to Titirangi (NZ). The story about our family's immigration journey to New Zealand. Celebrating Five Fabulous Years in NZ. Five years have flown past since we arrived here in the dead of the night - after a gruelling 24-hour flight from Johannesburg. So – in retrospect - what have been the high and low points of moving from South Africa to New Zealand? Lots of ‘people-stuff’ to do. While my family’s reaction to my pursuits has been mixed (i.e. lots of e...Anyone inte...

Leaving My Home Town - Pinelands (SA) to Titirangi (NZ): The weather in Auckland

http://leavingmyhometown.blogspot.com/2009/04/weather-in-auckland.html

Leaving My Home Town - Pinelands (SA) to Titirangi (NZ). The story about our family's immigration journey to New Zealand. The weather in Auckland. So, my humble take. Was broody, hot, cloudy, intense, humid, rainy, and when the sun shone, as it did for at least a few minutes every day, it hurt. Has been sublime. Still, peaceful, cloudy, sunny, misty, sometimes gloomy, occasionally windy. Overall, I would say the weather (but not the laser sun beams! It's a big gripe here; why, we have yet to find out.

Leaving My Home Town - Pinelands (SA) to Titirangi (NZ): Our One Year Milestone

Leaving My Home Town - Pinelands (SA) to Titirangi (NZ). The story about our family's immigration journey to New Zealand. Our One Year Milestone. 8220;I love this place. I love this city.” This is the silent mantra that played in my head this year each time we visited a new part of Auckland. Or each time we drove home from school pick-ups and saw the serene turquoise of the harbour mouth, the bush-covered ranges, the startling red of Pohutakawa flowers against the deep blue sky. Toastmasters, then I have...

Leaving My Home Town - Pinelands (SA) to Titirangi (NZ): July 2011

http://leavingmyhometown.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

Leaving My Home Town - Pinelands (SA) to Titirangi (NZ). The story about our family's immigration journey to New Zealand. Two years in New Zealand, and you always take the weather with you! 160;The hills of Titirangi. Instead of sipping a glass of champagne to celebrate our milestone of two years in New Zealand on 24 January, I was swigging cough medicine. A lot of it. Eing a hard worker, this was an interesting experience of being forced, for the first time in my life, to stop the treadmill and convales...

This is MY Wine. Searching for utopia and simple living while travelling, homeschooling and island living. January 1, 2012. When do you change your life? Happy New Year to everyone. Ha ha, makes me giggle saying that I as know of only 3 people who read my blog, the rest stumble upon it looking for information. But that is no worries for me, this blog is not meant to be one that I try and get up there with the best of them. So, when do you change your life? What is the straw that breaks the camels back?

This is MY Wine. Searching for utopia and simple living while travelling, homeschooling and island living. December 30, 2011. Almond Meal Tart Base. This is a lovely tart base for when you are having a filling that is protein, or not! It is gluten-free and yummy. Came up with the recipe my self. Don’t let it be too thick as it does rise a bit . 2 cups almond meal. 1/4 cup dessicated coconut. 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder. 1 egg, whisked. Bake for 15 minutes at 180 degrees celcius. This is MY Wine. Searching for utopia and simple living while travelling, homeschooling and island living. December 30, 2011. Almond Meal cheese muffins. These muffins are my bread, rice, potatoes …. my staple. I eat them with stews, with butter and jam for breakfast, with my curries, etc etc. They are my bread and I can’t do without them. Before them, I was literally starving myself as I follow a gluten-free plus food combining diet. Now I am a happy camper🙂. 1/4 cup olive oil. 2 cups almond meal.

Best Gluten-Free Carrot Cake ever !!! | This is MY Wine

This is MY Wine. Searching for utopia and simple living while travelling, homeschooling and island living. April 27, 2013. Best Gluten-Free Carrot Cake ever! Although I substituted 1 Tbs of yoghurt for the mayo, and a small handful of sliced almonds for the walnuts, I added half a teaspoon of ginger powder AND instead of a cream cheese frosting, I made an orange icing glaze, it was absolutely amazing . Seriously. You can take my word for it. Moist, very moist! 8211; all purpose gluten. 2 cups confectione...

I will end this post now, and let you know how it goes tomorrow, once they are all dried. I see that I have not commented on this post and my changes. The rusks were awful! This is MY Wine. Searching for utopia and simple living while travelling, homeschooling and island living. December 30, 2011. Almond Meal Pizza Crust. Sick of this all, I started roaming the internet , looking for some pizza sanity, and found it in the least expected place. A group of body building guys who like to cut carbohydrates out of their diets but still want to eat pizza. Yeah! Thanks guys. Due to this idea, I have taken almond meal and run with it, coming up with so many different recipes .

Building a Deck in my Backyard | This is MY Wine

This is MY Wine. Searching for utopia and simple living while travelling, homeschooling and island living. March 5, 2013. Building a Deck in my Backyard. There is one item that I really miss about our old home, and that is evidently missing from this one, and that is our deck. Some people say that a kitchen makes a home. I disagree! So I have decided to build a custom deck. Spring, summer, autumn, here we come! Posted in Uncategorized Tags: Building a Deck. Laquo; Darwin and Paper Marbling. Whimsical mus...

This is MY Wine. Searching for utopia and simple living while travelling, homeschooling and island living. March 4, 2013. Darwin and Paper Marbling. Not nicely anyway. More like marbling for young kids. Needed to source and buy a decent marbling kit with the proper inks. Eventually managed to find one place in Christchurch but it is not in my budget at the moment. Today however, I decided that I should start our Darwin block, with some Botany, and we will just do the marbling later. Along the Crooked Path.

Leaving My Home Town - Pinelands (SA) to Titirangi (NZ)

Leaving My Home Town - Pinelands (SA) to Titirangi (NZ). The story about our family's immigration journey to New Zealand. Surfing the White Wave. Started surfing at the age of 38, and took to it with all the enthusiastic lack of prowess I’d exhibited since the age of four when I couldn’t hop on one foot without toppling over. Then there were my favourite waves: the tidy, gentle ones that would allow me to swivel my hips, do a little jig, and change direction. What a feat! The only thing is. these wer...
