The River's Edge: January 2010

Reflections on Life and Nature. Saturday, January 30, 2010. Going Out with a Bang. My wife and kids are lucky:. When I die, I just want to be cremated. Forget mouldering away in a pool of chemicals under a patch of Kentucky Blue grass. I know, I know:. Different strokes for different folks, but cremation alone seems downright boring when compared to the guy I heard about today on the radio. Now that’s going out with a bang. Monday, January 25, 2010. Wild birds crowded the front yard this morning:. Fortun...

Reflections on Life and Nature. Thursday, July 2, 2015. Leaving the Nest - A Father's Reflections. The papers go in, and an anxious three or four weeks commence where their future hangs in the balance. They could serve anywhere—literally—from Moscow, Idaho, to Moscow, Russia, and everywhere in between. Hong Kong, the Philippines, Australia, Japan, Argentina, Brazil, Germany. That litany represents the places where just my immediate family has served. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

The River's Edge: June 2009

Reflections on Life and Nature. Thursday, June 25, 2009. Do your kids like video games, but they drive you crazy? Check out Orisinal, a series of cute and inventive games by Ferry Halim. Here's the link: http:/ www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/. Try the lady bug game. It's mildly. My brother, Pete, a graphic designer, turned us on to her site year's ago. Even the music's mellow and kind of catchy. My kids love it, particularly the younger set, and it's nice to see someone's creativity in full flower. Somethin...

The River's Edge: August 2009
http://timothyhawkes.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Reflections on Life and Nature. Thursday, August 6, 2009. So, my experiment in heirloom tomatoes is about half-way through, and I've learned a few things. First, most indeterminate tomato plants really do need 36" between plants. I have too many mature plants in too small of a space. But that's just a side show, the real question is: which tomatoes are worth planting again next year? And the mid-season award for best all round tomato goes to . drumroll please . a beefsteak tomato called Cherokee ...Subsc...

Reflections on Life and Nature. Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Investments Good and Not-So-Good. The other day found me weeding in the garden and thinking about investments, as in "Geez, if I calculated all the time, money, and effort that went into these tomatoes, I suspect they'd start to look pretty expensive." But worth it, mind you, definitely worth it. That got me thinking about other investments I've made over the years: some good, some not-so-good. Bad contractors. 'Nuff said. 2) Good pans. Same t...

Livin' the Dream: Wonder of Wonders, Miracle of Miracles!
http://joshmaryisaac.blogspot.com/2011/05/wonder-of-wonders-miracle-of-miracles.html
Helloand Welcome to the wonderful world of us! Wonder of Wonders, Miracle of Miracles! Posted by Mary and Josh. Isaac is weened from his binky! With almost NO effort on my part! Isaac basically weened himself. A small miracle for which I am VERY grateful! The last miracle is that my downstairs is actually clean! I can bask in the cleanliness of it for a few hours until it becomes a disaster once again! Here is a small poem that gives me some comfort in this regard:. Http:/ www.xmission.com. I really like...
