On the Peninsula

Sunday, 23 February 2014. They are the life and livelihood of a cattle farmer…apart from pasture, we would consider them our top priority. They are the cogs in the machine. And these little fellas are part of the production line. Like all farmers we talk about our cows and calves all of the time.I liken it to running a boarding school. They are under our care. Their nutrition, their education, their welfare…it is our responsibility. The first big round of branding was finished a couple of weeks ago.

On the Peninsula: June 2013

http://www.lifeonthepeninsula21.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html

Saturday, 22 June 2013. Last week of school. As the last week of school began with 6 days worth of work to get through in 3 we were feeling ambitious yet quietly telling ourselves.perhaps we will need the holidays! Leaving my husband with the boys and our trusty contract musterers', I made my journey. It wasn't ideal timing, steers to muster and truck, weaners' to botulism and copper and feed out and of course we didn't get school finished, oh and food! We left cold and wet Brisbane behind,. I hated runn...

Wednesday, 22 May 2013. Community, Cricket and a crowing Rooster! One thing I love about being part of a small community is that you tend to make your own fun! For the last 10 years our community has had the annual Rugby Charity Match to attend. With its wind up last year some people put their heads together in the hope of creating another get together. It was decided a game of cricket would involve everyone and with the cooler weather upon us it is the perfect time to hold a match. There was also a dres...

On the Peninsula: March 2013

Tuesday, 26 March 2013. End of the Cricket Season. The cricket season has drawn to a close with Rohan's last game unfortunately finishing with a forfeit! Lucky for him there had been a change of rules to Under 9s mid season which allowed him to play a more social game on a Friday night with his little brother. Living where we live I knew we wouldn't make it to the weekly cricket training (on Wednesdays and Thursdays).bring in Dad and the problem is solved. Friday, 22 March 2013. And family, is my life&#4...

Monday, 2 September 2013. Windmills, water and cows! This job is done 3-4 times a year.the least favourite of his jobs, but has to be done all the same. Safety is the objective here with harness properly fitted, the adrenalin is pumping with a 60ft Southern Cross tower to scale. He's not that happy about it! The mill is turned off by a leaver at the base, which isolates the tail of the mill, so that it stops pumping water while he's on the job. We are always trying to improve production whilst trying to ...

Life On The Outside

Life On The Outside. Thursday, May 31, 2012. I was released from prison in April, 2011. It was my first month of freedom since December, 1987. I spent 25 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections. Every day I served, I deserved. Truly, I was blessed that I wasn't sentenced to more years. Ultimately, I hurt a lot of people. That is what led me to prison. All of the choices I made as an 18 year old led me to some of the darkest places in the Indiana Department of Corrections. This isn't Shawshank Rede...

On the Perimeter: A Mature Student's Story

On the Perimeter: A Mature Student's Story. Thursday, March 11, 2010. My kids are geniuses. I know every mother (at least secretly) thinks that their kids are super smart, the brightest and best-looking of all their peers. So you probably don't do more than smile at my proud- mommisms. As you whiz past them to more reading about old people in university. But I mean it. Einstein-caliber geniuses. Maybe I do struggle with a mother's bias, but that's damn impressive. You'd think that we wouldn't have to wor...
