Lights Along the Coast. A weekly blog about all things lighthouses. Tuesday, June 30, 2009. Well, it has been awhile since I have had the opportunity to post on this blog. I apologize. With our pending move later this summer, things have gotten a little behind. Unfortunately until we move, I don't see much improvement. I apologize and I will do my best to post as I can. Lights Along the Coast. A weekly blog about all things lighthouses. Wednesday, June 23, 2010. After snapping a couple of pictures, I headed back towards my hotel near the airport. It was great to see this very interesting lighthouse, but next time I am in town, I will definitely plan my schedule around the sightseeing boat tour so that I can get a close up of the lighthouse to share. Lights Along the Coast. A weekly blog about all things lighthouses. Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Duties of a Lighthouse Keeper. When one speaks of the duties of "keeping" a lighthhouse, what exactly might they be talking about? For most of us, we know that "keeping" a light meant turning on the light every night at dusk and turning it off every morning after sunrise, but what exactly did that entail. Links to this post. Chronicles of the Risk Family. Saturday, November 28, 2009. Conversations with a Two Year Old. Below are some recent conversations with our son James who turned two in October. Mommy: Are you Mommy's baby? Mommy: (feeling sad and hurt) You're not Mommy's baby? Daddy: Are you Daddy's baby? Daddy: Is that because James is a little Boy and not a baby? Daddy: Is James a big boy? Mommy: Does James like cookies? James: (without hesitation) Yes! More on Possession is 9/10 the Law. It's What's for Breakfast.

All Things History: January 2009
http://allthingshistorical.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 12, 2009. The sinking of the Titanic and its later discovery was the most important maritime discovery of the 20th century. That discovery will continue to make history and awe thousands, if not millions of people. But the 21st century must find its own place in history, and it amy have done so in the past week with a discovery that is to science what the Titanic was to popular culture. Links to this post. All Things History: October 2008
http://allthingshistorical.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 31, 2008. Archealogical Discovery in Israel. The text has yet to be deciphered but contain Hebrew root words of "judge", "slave", and "king", indicating that the pottery may have served as a legal document. Although I am not a biblical or Middle Eastern historian, I find this discovery interesting. I believe we have much to learn from this excavation and I am anxious to see what else the Hebrew University archealogists find at this site. Links to this post. Thursday, October 30, 2008.

All Things History: The Worst Maritime Disaster in the United States
http://allthingshistorical.blogspot.com/2009/02/worst-maritime-disaster-in-united.html
Tuesday, February 3, 2009. The Worst Maritime Disaster in the United States. While researching my family heritage (see post dated December 30, 2009. My brother directed me to a website that mentioned the sinking of the SS Sultana, known as the worst maritime disaster in the United States. "The SS What? You ask. Exactly! After seeing the site my brother directed me to, I got thinking. How could a shipping disaster that claimed more lives than the sinking of the Titanic go unnoticed? I am a 38 year old fat...

Chronicles of the Risk Family. Friday, May 29, 2009. Revising Our Plan, Learning the Ropes, and Playing the Game. In our original plan, we applied to several MA/PhD combined programs and were not admitted to a single one. We quickly backtracked and applied to three MA programs and were accepted to all three - lesson number #1. How does this make things better? How do we know that we will be accepted the second time around? So what if this still doens't work out? Links to this post. Thursday, May 28, 2009.
The Risk Family: September 2009
http://jlrisk.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html
Chronicles of the Risk Family. Tuesday, September 29, 2009. The Change Pot had its best week ever thanks to Lori finding $15 on Monday evening. That find alone was twice the amount we had found all year, tripling the current total in the Change Pot. Here is this week's breakdwon:. Monday - $15.00. Yes, that's right! This means the $15 Lori found was truly lost and therefore qualifies. No, I will not make Lori donate her birthday money to the cause, but I will add $15 to the change pot for the find. As mo...
The Risk Family: July 2009
http://jlrisk.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Chronicles of the Risk Family. Tuesday, July 28, 2009. It was a very disaapointing week for the Change Pot. Barring a last minute find by Lori, late this evening, the change pot would have ended with a big goose egg for the week. That's right, yours truly did not find a single cent this week. Lori's find was a dime at the Hollywood Theaters at University Town Center in Morgantown, WV. James was staying with Grandma and Grandpa, so Lori and I took the opportunity to go to the movies. We saw. Well, our sto...

Chronicles of the Risk Family. Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Highlights from this week's Found Money. Thursday, I found 12 cents in the parking lot of Hart Field, Morgantown's Regional Airport. We had gone to the airport to eat lunch at. And when I got out of the car, I found a dime. I walked around in front of the car to open the door for Lori and I found a penny. When we returned to the car after eating, I found a second penny behind our car. Year to Date Total:. Links to this post. Clean Sweep - Week 7.

There are times in life when we look back at what was and remember the good times. Perhaps we think to ourselves:. When did it change? Rarely in life are we given the opportunity to know exactly when what is, is now what was. That happened for me today when it was announced that a place I so loved, a place I truly called home, a place I have spent days and nights at, on and felt part of was taken away for good. Why did you leave NY? Good Bye, Fire Island. Good Bye, my beloved Lighthouse Beach. 10 Reasons...
