Tuesday, May 19, 2015. A Hypothesis on the Duality of Character Traits. An idea crossed my mind a while ago about how it is possible for a single character trait to be both an asset to a character and a burden. Or, how one trait can lead to sister traits that can be good or bad. An obvious example of the first scenario- a trait that is simultaneously an asset and a burden- would be Adrian Monk's OCD and hypersensitivity to stimuli in the TV show Monk. As I recall, this train of thought came to me while I...

Oh, this looks like foreshadowing for romance… Mwahahahaaa. Gah, again with the romantic foreshadowing. I’m so mean. I think I’m going to die from an angst overdose. “It’s so angsty I’m gonna die.” … I haven’t even seen Despicable Me. This is the ONE and ONLY time we are allowed to use this simile. http://lilyjenness.blogspot.com/2014/06/fun-with-notes.html
Sunday, June 22, 2014. When I finished my second draft of Noxumbra. I had 300 pages, and 800 comment bubbles. Yes, you read those numbers correctly. I'm not an edit-as-you-go type, but apparently I am a leave-notes-about-everything-for-the-next-draft type. And rereading those notes has been a blast. Here are some of my favorites:. Do pirates send thank you notes? Edus spare us. You’re such a drama queen, Wycliff.". GAH, YOU ARE SUCH A COWARD. YOU’RE NEVER GOING TO MEET YOUR SON! This is so cool. Dude, at...

Tuesday, August 19, 2014. Mystery: Plot and Character. In the past week I've been working on improving the mystery in my work in progress. Since the book is supposed to be a mystery, I need to make sure the mystery is a good one that makes sense and keeps readers reading. Well, yes and no. Of course it's a plot thing; the crime and subsequent attempts to solve it are what move the story along. But what gets investigated as the detectives try to unravel it? Sunday, August 17, 2014. Short Story for Critique.
