Blogs I Read

https://literaryvittles.wordpress.com/blogroll

Reading in the Growlery. 8211; the most analytical and thorough book reviews I’ve come across; a very engaged commenter as well. Unfortunately, she hasn’t posted for about 4 months. 8211; concise but meaningful books reviews and beautiful photos from a California resident. 8211; well-written and entertaining, covering a wide variety of genres, directors, and countries. Anna is also incredibly nice. Veronika’s film reviews. 8211; thorough movie reviews, often related through a socialist lens. 8211; the tr...

2015 Reflections and Highlights from a Year in New Zealand, Pt. 1. December 29, 2015. January 24, 2016. 2015: What a year. It’s startling to think back to last January and realize how much has changed, and how quickly. If you’ll indulge me, then, on a trip down memory lane featuring some photos of New Zealand that for one reason or another never made it to the blog. I’ve had to split up this post into two parts, simply because there was so much I wanted to share! Share on Facebook (Opens in new window).

Lovely Lake Taupo

https://literaryvittles.wordpress.com/2015/06/11/lovely-lake-taupo

June 11, 2015. September 26, 2015. Somewhat to our surprise, Taupo ended up being our favorite place on the North Island — surprising because we hadn’t really heard much about it. With a population of 23,400, Taupo is one of the larger towns in New Zealand (in fact, it’s apparently the 20th largest urban area), and is situated alongside the glimmering, shimmering lake from which the town takes its name. Up, and then back down, the steep mountain slopes as we huffed and puffed along. Even these photos don...

Review: Marshland (La isla mínima)

Review: Marshland (La isla mínima). June 28, 2015. September 26, 2015. In a now hopefully less-rare cinematic outing, we decided to go see. Spanish: La isla m ínima. Based on the three reviews posted on Rotten Tomatoes. Encouraged by its comparison to (presumably season one) of. I expected a hollow, aching murder-mystery involving female victms and two conflicted male detectives. I was not disappointed. In fact, in many ways, I preferred the film to the convoluted HBO television show;. S Rust and Marty d...

The Shire in Spring

https://literaryvittles.wordpress.com/2015/06/01/the-shire-in-spring

The Shire in Spring. June 1, 2015. September 26, 2015. Wednesday, October 29th was the fateful day we visited Hobbiton. The Hobbiton movie set is located roughly equidistantly between Lake Rotorua and Mount Maunganui, so either place is a good jumping off point for a visit to The Shire (Matamata is a very small town, and I’m not sure what the accommodations are like there). And so it begins. 8221; said Bilbo, and he meant it. The sun was shining, and the grass was very green.”. Make you late for dinner!

Trainwreck (2015) | Veronika's film reviews

https://nickysfilmdiary.wordpress.com/2015/08/05/trainwreck-2015

Veronika's film reviews. August 5, 2015. I do not have the answer to why I thought this Judd Apatow movie will be any better than his previous films. Probably because the queen of contemporary stand up comedy Amy Schumer (whom I actually like! Wrote a screenplay for this so-called “feminist romantic comedy”. To be honest, I am still not completely sure what happened: was it the fact that she is used to writing short stand-up routines and not two-hour long movies? The Devil Wears Prada. However, let&#8217...

Is a lovely collection of stories by Mr. Piumini, illustrated by Nicoletta Costa. I love the texture she creates with her patterns and the humor Ms. Costa conveys. Literary Voices of IndiaTranslations of Contemporary Fiction

Literary Voices of India. Translations of Contemporary Fiction. Our readers have commented on occasion that there is a preponderance of sadness in the stories we publish. While this is not a conscious choice on our part, some of the most compelling writing is inspired by loss, injustice and suffering. But equally important are stories that fill us with wonder and the lightness of being. In this issue, we bring you stories that cover this vast terrain. A self proclaimed math genius, the hero of.
