Kara Petersen's Ponderings...: November 2010
http://karapetersen2010.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 8, 2010. For those of you who know me well, this will come as a shock. One night last week, I indulged a panhandler outside of Seven Eleven. My late night, insomniac sweet tooth got the better of me. So, my roommate and I walked two blocks for some Reece’s Pieces and maybe even a package of Mint Milanos. There was a small and withered man sitting outfront in a wheelchair, and all he wanted was something to eat. He said he didn’t want booze, or cigarettes, or any cash. It was only the sec...

Kara Petersen's Ponderings...: July 2010
http://karapetersen2010.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, July 29, 2010. This morning I drove from Santa Barbara to Montecito via the back roads. For those of you who don’t know, this route is one of the most beautiful drives in the world, especially in the morning. The sun is rising in the East over an exclusive range of mountains, one of only a hand full of ranges that stretch both north and south and east and west. Ahh, it’s good to be back. I love back roads. I love going slow. I love the view. We would take PCH or Highway 1. My Dad would talk sto...

Kara Petersen's Ponderings...: The Purse is Half Full
http://karapetersen2010.blogspot.com/2011/01/purse-is-half-full.html
Thursday, January 20, 2011. The Purse is Half Full. If you are male, squeamish or lacking a sense of humor:. WARNING THIS POST CONTAINS MENSTRUATION CONVERSATION. Well, apparently Mother Nature's New Year's Resolution was to be more punctual, so punctual that she decided to show up a whole week early. Since she arrived a week early, I wasn't prepared with the proper toiletries for Mother Nature. I dug through my purse and found not only a tampon but half a bag of Peanut M&M's. I ate them for brea...Now, ...

Kara Petersen's Ponderings...: Bye Bye Borders
http://karapetersen2010.blogspot.com/2011/01/bye-bye-borders.html
Tuesday, January 4, 2011. The Santa Barbara Borders. Is a ghost town already. I went in over the weekend to buy a magazine, the only thing that wasn't on sale. I rarely shop at Borders. It is too big and if I want a coffee I go to the French Press. I grew up going to Chaucer's. I don't know what is going on with Borders but I don't think its good, for them at least. I've seen a couple of Borders south of Santa Barbara with the same "Store Closing Sale- This Location Only" signs. So obviously, its...As a ...

Kara Petersen's Ponderings...: Weather
http://karapetersen2010.blogspot.com/2011/01/weather.html
Monday, January 17, 2011. Today I am pondering the weather, probably because I am supposed to be writing my column for DEEP Magazine. My feigning focus is easily lead astray by the rays of 80 degree sunlight shining through my living room window. In Santa Barbara, we have mild and unpredictable weather, i.e. the heat we are experiencing in January. I want to state that this post is not a compliant, just an observation. Kara Petersen's Ponderings...: December 2010
http://karapetersen2010.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 31, 2010. My Dad always used to tell me that only 1% of the population of the world gets to see the sunset over the ocean. Each December my sun creeps out over the Pacific. On clear bright mornings (like the spectacular one today! It says goodnight to me in hues of hopeful pink and magnificent magenta. Each dusk my sky is a finer masterpiece than you will ever see in a museum. Links to this post. Sunday, December 26, 2010. Leaping into my 30's. Links to this post. View my complete profile.

Kara Petersen's Ponderings...: Upcycling
http://karapetersen2010.blogspot.com/2011/02/upcycling.html
Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Perfect example: In the last week my roommate moved out, taking with her the majority of the home utensils she accumulated over the years living in the house. As she was sharing them with us, I hadn't purchased any of my own. The kitchen was a ghost town when she left. In the same week I also started working at Little Pickle Press. As we compared our loot my sister excitedly proclaimed, we are upcycling! Upcycling is defined by Wikipedia. Hat is the point of recycling when no o...
