Crazy stars | Live. Grow. Nourish. Create.

https://livegrownourishcreate.wordpress.com/2015/08/03/crazy-stars

Live Grow. Nourish. Create. I’ve only sewn one more star, but I have turned all four stars into hexagons with the addition of background diamonds:. I love each of these star-in-a-hexagon blocks. Together, though, I’m not so sure. Are they going to be just toooo crazy? I feel they might need spacing with something easier on the eye. I think the options are:. 1 Intersperse with neutral coloured shapes eg hexagons or triangles. 2 Make the stars as I am doing but do half with neutral (white or pale pink?

Monday Morning Star Count | Live. Grow. Nourish. Create.

https://livegrownourishcreate.wordpress.com/2015/08/10/monday-morning-star-count

Live Grow. Nourish. Create. Monday Morning Star Count. I have made three more hexagon stars this week:. Which brings the total number to seven:. Now that I have more of a mixture of values and colours, I’m not so sure if I will need any neutral hexagons or triangles to break it up after all. I am liking the way they play together now🙂. Fickle, aren’t I? Linking up to Monday Morning Star Count. Over at Life Under Quilts. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Click to email (Opens in new window).

Live Grow. Nourish. Create. Kids Art Week Lesson One: Picasso Dogs. A few weeks back, I mentioned that we had signed up for Carla Sonheim’s free Kids Art Week. Class Yesterday, we did the first lesson: Picasso Dogs. We had such fun with this that Waif (10) and I made two “dogs” each🙂. Here are Waif’s two creatures:. And here are mine:. We can’t wait for the next lesson! Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window). Click to email (Opens in new window).

Kids Art Week Lesson Two: Night Skies | Live. Grow. Nourish. Create.

https://livegrownourishcreate.wordpress.com/2015/07/29/kids-art-week-lesson-two-night-skies

Live Grow. Nourish. Create. Kids Art Week Lesson Two: Night Skies. Today we did the second lesson of Kids Art Week, which was to make these fun night sky paintings, using crayons as a wax resist. I think there was a hurricane going on in Waif’s night sky:. Mine is a bit more dreamy:. We haven’t been doing as much art lately, and I think taking part in this workshop has made us both realise how much we have missed it. Here’s to including more art in our home education schedule! Live Grow. Nourish. Create. In Praise of Hand Stitching. As mother to a sociable and sports-mad ten year old son, I seem to spend an inordinate amount of time at the local sports centre, waiting for him to finish various activities. Today was dodgeball for Waif, and coffee, Kindle and stitching time for mama:. Life ain’t so bad🙂. Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window). Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window). Colour cloth and catnaps. A few of my favourite things. Skip to primary content. A little about me. Culture and History – Textiles and Quilts. My Quilts and Projects. August 2, 2015. I’m off to my quilting group today to do some machine piecing on a small project. I’ve been very slack on that front lately, I just seem to come home, have dinner and a glass of wine and curl up on the couch with “the boys”. I’ve also been working on week-ends so I do have some excuse! I hope you have a creative week.

A little break in Northumberland…. | Thimbles and Teapots

Tea, cake and sewing…. A little break in Northumberland. Asymp; Leave a comment. The landscape of Northumberland is truly beautiful and it is far less touristy than popular destinations such as the Lake District or Cornwall. Even though the schools were on holiday, the beaches were pretty deserted and we rarely saw any other cars on the road. Here are just a few photos from our little adventure:. Beautiful beach at Amble. Another picture of the beautiful beach at Amble! Can you spot the butterfly? In the...

Trying to make piping and other sewing woes…. | Thimbles and Teapots

Tea, cake and sewing…. Trying to make piping and other sewing woes. Asymp; 1 Comment. Why would I try to make my own bias-binding you may wonder? Apparently, when attempting to make piping for a cushion, you should cut all fabric strips on the bias to ensure a smooth finish. I therefore found this simple tutorial from By Hand London. Making bias-binding is much easier on a Sunday when you’ve had a bit more sleep, the sun is shining and you may have also had a raspberry and mint martini at a summer market.

Tea, cake and sewing…. A patchwork teddy called Henry! Made using a pattern from Love Patchwork and Quilting. My very first quilt. I am quite proud of this. It was made using fabrics from the Vin du Jour range (3 Sisters for Moda fabrics). Can’t remember what fabric this is but I think I bought it from a quilt shop in Narberth (South Wales). Tea, cake and sewing…. An election, a poorly cat and a little bit of sewing. Asymp; Leave a comment. I can’t have been the only one who looked at the 2015 election logo and thought that perhaps it would be a good design for a quilt block? My husband certainly regarded me a little oddly when I mentioned it. It is highly likely that the election results have been the topic of much discussion during this past week. I’m not going to add to the conversation here. Indeed, having read this blog post. I was rece...

Life has a habit of getting in the way of well laid plans. I had my first free week-end in months last week and it was warm and sunny so I set off with friends to the markets with big plans for lots of week-end activities. It was not to be! I did manage a couple more stars at the end of the week. I also found this lovely br...

IPad obsessed wanna be artist ”. Newer posts ›. October 3, 2012. I became very lazy after the trip. My room is a total mess, my plants are dying, I didn’t cook anything since I arrived, I don’t work sincerely, and I feel tired all the time. I just want to lay down and read some book and so on. I didn’t know that it would take so long to go back to my regular routine. Today I started to draw pieces for the exhibition. Posted under Hand Drawings. October 1, 2012. Doodling in the subway.
