Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland: January 2011
http://bousta.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland. Tuesday, 25 January 2011. On Thursday 20th Beth and I drove down from Dunedin to Bluff via Invercargill. Bluff is the southernmost port in NZ and the ferry point to Stewart Island where Sorley went last year. After 22 degree temps in Wellington it was relatively cool in Bluff. We stayed the night in Invercargill with a Shetland couple (relatives of the man whose biography I am to write). To this waterfall at Purakaunui. Next day we were on to Dunedin an...

Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland: Havera
http://bousta.blogspot.com/2011/06/havera.html
Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland. Sunday, 12 June 2011. I fulfilled an ambition this past week . to get to the island of Havera. It's on the west side of Shetland, just north of Maywick (which is just north of Bigton). I went with Bobby Hunter (1/4 owner) from Burra (which is a couple of kilometres north of Havera . all very confusing, you'll need a map! There were 4-5 families living on the island up to about 1920. A schoolteacher recorded staying in the house above the cave and li...

Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland: October 2010
http://bousta.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland. Saturday, 30 October 2010. The hole in the wall. Archie, Andrew and David have now been a week at the job. A nice tidy bedroom to start with. This is Andrew - a bit camera shy - putting in the shuttering prior to filling in with concrete. The hole was initially rather large for comfort, even though it was shored up with scaffolding, but at this stage (below) Andrew and David have rebuilt the sides around the frame which will be the window.

Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland: September 2010
http://bousta.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Patricia and Laughton Johnston in Bousta, Shetland. Monday, 20 September 2010. Garden walls and gable walls. Before the severe gales came and blew away the leaves the north west corner of the garden looked like this. I decided that the wall was too low, needed repair and raising to the height of the other part of the north wall by the terrace. The outside side of the wall with part of it rebuilt and heightened. I put in the vertical stone to hold the bridge. Laughton and Patricia Johnston. Muckle Bousta,...

Amanda in Kenya: November 2006
http://amandainkenya.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 30, 2006. The strange things that happen. Today I had 2 odd phone calls:. 1 Friends called to invite me for drinks after their hockey game. NOT field hockey- but ICE hockey. Nairobi has one of the only ice rinks in Sub Saharan Africa. Apparently there is a hockey league here. Glenn- you could maybe make a trade from your Edmonton team to Kenya :). Posted by Amanda at 5:16 PM. Wednesday, November 29, 2006. I will now STOP complaining about the rain. Posted by Amanda at 4:36 PM. On Satur...
