My Adventures In Beekeeping

My Adventures In Beekeeping. Monday, 4 June 2012. The Second Year is Difficult . Last year went smoothly, with the bees producing about 26lb honey. We gave most of it away, though! This year has been chaotic. Firstly the bees got through the winter well and the early spring got them producing honey and new brood very rapidly. We found queen cells and so did and artificial swarm according to the book. Unfortunately the weather turned and I'm not sure the new queen was fertilised. The artificial swarm hive...

My Adventures In Beekeeping: July 2011

http://lornas-bees.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

My Adventures In Beekeeping. Monday, 25 July 2011. It had to happen I suppose. They say you aren't a beekeeper until you get stung. My bees are nice though and the sting was my own fault. After doing the inspection yesterday morning I was wondering around the garden with no shoes on and stepped on two bees which both stung me on the foot! So all in all things are ticking along nicely. My Adventures In Beekeeping: The Big Day Approaches.

http://lornas-bees.blogspot.com/2011/05/big-day-approaches.html

My Adventures In Beekeeping. Wednesday, 25 May 2011. The Big Day Approaches. I finally got fed up of waiting for the company I ordered the bees from, to contact me, so I emailed them. They had told me they would be arriving by early May. Anyway, about half an hour later I got a phone call to say that some would be available next week, but I needed to collect them. I have agreed to do this after checking they are sealed in a box for transit. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Big Day Approaches.

My Adventures In Beekeeping: March 2011

http://lornas-bees.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

My Adventures In Beekeeping. Wednesday, 23 March 2011. I've been looking forward to getting my hive and was very excited on arriving at the village hall where we were to assemble them. I was shown to a table in the hall. On the table was my hive, in bits, looking like a random pile of wood! I immediately went to get help as the A4 sheet we were given to explain how to assemble it just wasn't enough. Three hours later and lots of what can only be described as "angry hammering" the hive is built. View my c...

My Adventures In Beekeeping: Still Waiting

http://lornas-bees.blogspot.com/2011/05/still-waiting.html

My Adventures In Beekeeping. Monday, 2 May 2011. The bees have yet to arrive. I suppose I should be grateful, because once they are here all the trouble (could) starts. The hive is now in the garden all ready and waiting. Hopefully by my next entry here we will have the bees and they will be busy going about their business. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
