Addiction wreaks havoc on loved ones, not just the addict. My name is Charity Collier, I am substance abuse counselor, a daughter of an alcoholic, and have friends whom I love with addiction. I have a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Physiology and a certificate in the Addictions Counselor Education Program from the University of Massachusetts in Boston, MA.

Signs of Addiction and How to Help Yourself. How does one know if their loved one is an addict? No One Chooses To Be an Addict. They find out the first time they ingest the substance or portray behavior of that addiction. These substances could be things such as alcohol, marijuana, or prescription drugs. Addiction often is used to cover pain someone is feeling whether it be physical and/or emotional. Who wants to feel the pain/guilt or remember a traumatic memory inside them?
