The wetland along the Lafayette River at the intersection of Holly and Columbus Avenues (Riverview) was badly overgrown with Phragmites. Grasses had been lost to soil erosion, and there was no protection from runoff from the adjacent condominium. The restoration of 250 linear feet of vegetated wetland, the elimination of over 3000 square feet of Phragmites, and the planting of a buffer of upland shrubs and flower plants was completed in 2013. On March 28th, Ruth Martin led eight Riverpoint neighbors and Josie White in clearing out the fallen stalks of dead Phragmites at the Riverpoint Park wetland The area will be replanted on May 9. In two hours they filled 35 trash bags and this was in addition to the 55 bags that the Sheriff’s workforce had removed earlier. The area is now open to the sun and ready for some new plants to find a home. The plan for May 9.

The Lafayette Wetlands Partnership restored an urban wetland located along Knitting Mill Creek at 46 th. Street and Colley Avenue in 2008-2009.
