Teaching unplugged – in brief. Archive for April, 2010. Blue skies from now on? April 26, 2010 at 5:24 pm · Filed under This week's blog. Well, that was the week that was and wasn’t. Flights were grounded, face-to-face conference presenters were at a premium and Scott Thornbury found himself impersonating Jeremy Harmer. It was an odd time generally: were we experiencing a blip in the steady march of Progress, or a taste of things to come? April 26, 2010 at 5:23 pm · Filed under Connections. Sustainabilit...

Teaching unplugged – in brief. July 1, 2010 at 5:51 pm · Filed under This week's blog. This blog has been on hold for some time, while the family cared for and at length said goodbye to my mother, Pauline. I’m proud to pay tribute to her influence here, whilst also sharing some breaking news from the world of ‘dogme’ (you’ll see the reason for the inverted commas) and inviting you to contribute to a onefortywords Special. Teaching unplugged – in brief. July 1, 2010 at 5:37 pm · Filed under This week's music. Many weeks ago I was touched by a tweet from Mark Andrews, and reminded of a song that somehow fits his searching, life-affirming blog. Sandy Denny singing Ballad of the Easy Rider, her voice like air: ‘The river flows, it flows to the sea, wherever that river goes, that’s where I want to be.’. Beyond onefortywords: Fairport Convention, feat. Sandy Denny, performing Roger McGuinn’s Ballad of the Easy Rider. Hi Anne,I ...

Natasa's blog: Murphy's Law for EFL teachers
http://lunas994.blogspot.com/2010/04/murphys-laws-for-efl-teachers.html
Tuesday, 13 April 2010. Murphy's Law for EFL teachers. 1 If you have prepared a really cool warmer, everybody will be late for class. 2 If you have planned an important pairwork activity, an odd number of students will show up. 3 If you give your instructions so clearly that nobody can misunderstand, somebody will. 4 The student who misunderstood the instructions will explain them to everybody in his/her team. 5 Photocopiers always break when you have an important test. Well, I got as far as number 15...

Reflections, Hopes and Experiences of a Teacher. Saturday, August 23, 2014. I have started this post ,as well as many other posts , and here I am resuming it after being totally taken by some family responsibilities and summer joys. The end-of-year is always as hard for some teachers as the beginning of the year. Much of the strain I endure is correlated with my concern of how much I have achieved of my goals . Did I do my best with everyone of my pupils? Did I care for each of them more or less equally?

Reflections, Hopes and Experiences of a Teacher. Wednesday, October 22, 2014. A creative way to present a project! With a lot of delight and contentment, I do publish one of the many wonderful projects " some"my students implemented after reading a short story by O.Henry. Reading literature can be very motivating for learners, especially if the topic rings bells for them. The story is a love story and this topic is seemingly an everlasting topic that interests teenagers. Here is what happened, after bein...

An Experiment with Dogme. An ongoing account of my 'unplugged' teaching, right from the start. Lesson 5 – I want to lose weight. September 15, 2011. The first guy to arrive told me that he was hungry because he’d been on a diet. I asked him about it and as the others arrived involved them in the conversation. Naturally, the girls started giving him advice on how to lose weight and were horrified at some of his habits (going to the shop in the middle of the night to buy cakes! 8212;——. An Experiment with Dogme. An ongoing account of my 'unplugged' teaching, right from the start. Dogme Training Session – Before. February 23, 2012. After the event itself, I’m planning to ask a colleague to write a report on what happened, which will hopefully provide some insight on how such a workshop comes across to teachers unfamiliar with Dogme. Extremely experienced teachers, most of whom will not be aware of Dogme ELT. 2 Ask ‘Ss’ to brainstorm solutions to my situation in pairs. 4 Pairs mingle and.

An Experiment with Dogme. An ongoing account of my 'unplugged' teaching, right from the start. Lesson 2 – Rioting. September 1, 2011. First lesson back after the summer break with my intermediate business class that want to do ‘conversation’ now! They really want to talk, and it all flows beautifully from one thing to the next. I love how engaged they are with language that they’ve created themselves, not something that’s come from a worksheet. Have a look at the finished board. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Friday, 11 May 2012. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product? We were told to put at least 5 different shots in our preliminary and we did this without fail and in my opinion used a varied amount for our preliminary which would be hard to beat in our coursework. The camera was extremely unsteady in our preliminary which we didn't really seem to realise and we broke the 180 degree rule i believe. Unpurposful of course. We reali...
