Seax Collaberation | The Knotted Wyrm

https://lukeshearerbladesmith.wordpress.com/2013/02/22/seax-collaberation

Handcrafted knives and swords by Bladesmith Luke Shearer. February 22, 2013. I contacted fellow bladesmith Myles Mulkey with the idea to collaborate on an Anglo-Saxon seax from around the 9th or 10th century. I wanted to make a pattern welded blade, so I took a four bar core from a failed Norwegian langsax project and welded it to a high carbon edge bar of 1084 steel. Here are the billets prepared for welding:. I then forge the blade closely to shape…. Ground to white steel. The spine is left quite thick.

Handcrafted knives and swords by Bladesmith Luke Shearer. Monthly Archives: November 2012. November 19, 2012. Had to write this for my English class, 14 line of iambic pentameter…a Shakespearean sonnet. I had some fun with it. Almost makes me want to get into Old Norse poetry, such as fornyrðislag, like Myles Mulkey- http:/ mylesmulkey.blogspot.com/. The Woodsman … Continue reading →. November 7, 2012. By the Red Embers. Blade from scraps | The Knotted Wyrm

https://lukeshearerbladesmith.wordpress.com/2012/12/28/blade-from-scraps

Handcrafted knives and swords by Bladesmith Luke Shearer. Seax Collaberation →. December 28, 2012. The knife I welded up from scrap pieces is forged, heat treated, polished, and etched in ferric chloride, a weak acid, to expose the pattern. I wanted a weird shape to match the strangeness of the pattern. I will send it to fellow bladesmith Matt Waters for a handle. View all posts by Luke Shearer →. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. By The Red Embers: Pocket Knife & A Ring

http://mylesmulkey.blogspot.com/2015/06/pocket-knife-ring.html

Saturday, June 27, 2015. Pocket Knife and A Ring. Not much activity lately! Oak handle with some traces of medullary activity. Measurements are long forgotten haha. I also made a very simple silver wire ring inspired by an Anglo Saxon example at the British Museum. These are pretty fun and easy to make, and when using dead soft wire, you can do most of it with your fingers. I'll have some free time to devote to this type of work very soon, and more posts will follow. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Thursday, January 30, 2014. First post in quite a while! I must preface this one by saying that the activities discussed/illustrated in the below post are not safe, I am no expert so you shouldn't use anything from this post as any kind of guide, and you should not attempt to do any of this yourself. Now, enjoy. My goal was to cast a copper-alloy bolster for an ongoing collaboration I'm doing with Luke Shearer ( http:/ lukeshearerbladesmith.wordpress.com. My patented saucepan mold-holder. http://mylesmulkey.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, April 20, 2013. I've recently read the famous work of Theophilus Presbyter, De Diversis Artibus. I had no idea that I would find such wisdom in this book; I really underestimated Theophilus. He had profound insights into what it means to be a craftsman and a thankful human being. There's much more to his work than these few passages, but these made a distinct impression on me and I wanted to share them. I encourage you to check out this book for yourself if you're at all interested. This is a p...

Shards of the Dark Age: Sharpening: Spokeshaves

https://shardsofthedarkage.blogspot.com/2015/08/sharpening-spokeshaves.html

Shards of the Dark Age. Pieces of a bygone Age brought back to life with a pair of weathered hands and the curiosity which left it in ruin. Interested in learning about blacksmithing? Traditional leather preservation techniques. Monday, August 3, 2015. This spokeshave belonged to my grandfather, an old Stanley No. 52 that has seen a fair bit of use through the years. Because there is a spot or two of rust in various places, I'll be cleaning that up while I have it in mind. Reassembling the spokeshave, se...

The universe is made of glass, look hard enough and you'll see the cracks. First Post, First Publication. March 6, 2016. March 16, 2016. My writer buddies have been bugging me to get this website sorted for quite a while. Lazy sod that I am, I’ve been quite good at finding reasons not to do it, but after my first published story appeared in the. Anthology I couldn’t really keep wheeling out the same old excuses. So here goes! George RR Martin, watch your ass! So that about brings us up to date.
