y of x: ABBA = ABBA
http://yofx.blogspot.com/2009/07/abba-abba.html
The Unofficial Tunxis Math Department Blog. Tuesday, July 14, 2009. I was dragged to an ABBA. Tribute concert last Friday night. I'm regrettably familiar with ABBA's music, Mama Mia. Veteran (even the sing-a-long), but it was the first time I realized the band's name is a palindrome. It is also the first time the name reminded me of a rhyme scheme. Two revelations, one night.) What is the real origin of the name? Reminder YofX will be moving to www.yofx.org. In 6 days on 7/20*. Geek of the Week.

y of x: Which Mathematical Function Are You?
http://yofx.blogspot.com/2009/07/which-mathematical-function-are-you.html
The Unofficial Tunxis Math Department Blog. Thursday, July 16, 2009. Which Mathematical Function Are You? Lee tipped me off on a great Facebook time-waster: the Which Mathematical Function Are You. Lee is apparently the Riemann zeta-function. I'm curious how many functions the quiz outputs. Let me know what you got in the comments. Reminder YofX will be moving to www.yofx.org. In 4 days on 7/20*. I usually skip the FB quizzes, but this one appealed to my nerdy side. Funny enough, I was Gaussian also!

http://yofx.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
The Unofficial Tunxis Math Department Blog. Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Online education is a huge concern for me because I’m teaching my first online class this spring. Even more than that, I’m interested in taking a number of our other classes online. There are significant challenges for math online that primarily text-based disciplines like English and History don’t have to contend with. Technology is catching up quick though. One cool thing about Amatyc. Okay, so what’s bad about Plato? Sue and I hea...

y of x: Something to Show Your Algebra Classes
http://yofx.blogspot.com/2009/07/something-to-show-your-algebra-classes.html
The Unofficial Tunxis Math Department Blog. Friday, July 10, 2009. Something to Show Your Algebra Classes. I actually found a reference to variation. That isn't in a text book. The Wired Science blog had a post on high-altitude wind. Generation (pretty interesting in its own right). They describe the relationship between wind speed and power generated like this. I wonder how many of the students I tortured with variation would remember what it means if they read this article? Geek of the Week.
