Madison Co. Health Beat

Madison Co. Health Beat. Friday, April 30, 2010. Dear Madison County Health Department:. Pam and Beth – I have learned so much from the two of you this semester. About what a public health nurse does; about what public health nurses do far beyond their hours, job descriptions and salaries; about health concerns in Madison County; about the extent to which public health nursing reaches beyond seeing a client for a few minutes in an exam room – far beyond. Thanks for sharing with me your passion for public...

Madison Co. Health Beat: Nothing to do today? Or nothing to do tomorrow?

http://madcohealth.blogspot.com/2010/04/nothing-to-do-today-or-nothing-to-do.html

Madison Co. Health Beat. Sunday, April 4, 2010. Nothing to do today? Or nothing to do tomorrow. I’ve been talking to Madisonians about teen pregnancy since January, and no matter whom I interview – teen mom, nurse, epidemiologist, counselor, parent, advocate – I always ask the question, “Why is the teen pregnancy rate so high in Madison County? Poverty, of course, sets Madison County apart from the suburbs. But what does poverty have to do with pregnancy? 8220;Yes.”. 8220;What is that moment like? I was ...

Madison Co. Health Beat: ACC.10

http://madcohealth.blogspot.com/2010/03/acc10.html

Madison Co. Health Beat. Monday, March 15, 2010. Taking a brief break from my self-assigned pregnancy beat, I attended one day of ACC.10 – the 59th session of the American College of Cardiologists in Atlanta yesterday. A couple of story ideas came from it. There were three posters that I’d like to find a way to work into one story and (but how? Relate to Madison Co. 8226; “Government-Sponsored Health Insurance and Lack of Insurance Are Associated with Adverse Cardiac Effects.”. The focus of H2H is on imp...

Madison Co. Health Beat. Friday, February 19, 2010. First Visit to Cooperative Extension. Friday, January 15, 2010. After meeting with Leigh Anne Aaron and Debbie Phillips at the cooperative extension in Danielsville, I understood Professor Thomas’s mantra “Every story is a health story.”. 8221; They must see a lot of poverty. Over the next hour and a half, Leigh Anne and Debbie shared with me the struggles of the rural poor that they have witnessed through their work at the cooperative extension. The co...

Madison Co. Health Beat: Not a puff piece

http://madcohealth.blogspot.com/2010/04/not-puff-piece.html

Madison Co. Health Beat. Tuesday, April 20, 2010. Not a puff piece. I’ve learned a thing or two about writing in my life, and I know that words like “so,” “very,” and “really” are pretty much off-limits. I know that whether it’s a creative writing workshop or a journalism class, nobody really. Oops) wants to read a piece about how wonderful someone or something is. In a poetry or fiction work, it’s drivel. In journalism, it’s a puff piece. 8220;Where’s the tension? 8221; “Where’s the conflict? When a den...

CLARKE COUNTY HEALTH BEAT: The guilty conscience and health promotion

http://clarkehealthbeat.blogspot.com/2010/03/guilty-conscience-and-health-promotion.html

CLARKE COUNTY HEALTH BEAT. Monday, March 22, 2010. The guilty conscience and health promotion. The increasing body weight and waist circumference always are considered as the natural result of aging. Most senior people are satisfied with their bodies, because their parents, friends and neighbors all seem to be living the same way. When this happens, the guilty conscience seems to become more effective in persuading older adults to lose weight. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

http://clarkehealthbeat.blogspot.com/2010/04/boston-trip-to-be-continued.html

CLARKE COUNTY HEALTH BEAT. Saturday, April 24, 2010. Boston Trip (to be continued). As I know, in some forms, the bacteria and virus can survive for hundreds of years or under extreme conditions. If the scientists had already successfully determined the 1918 flu virus's genetics sequence by using historic tissue samples recovered from a female flu victim buried in Alaska, why can't we imagine that we might find something more in those jars? Maybe some ancient virus, I guess. April 28, 2010 at 4:28 AM.
