Maggie's adventures in London. I have mini adventures at least twice a week in London. I set off early with my camera and I deliberately get lost. Sunday, 28 February 2010. Well I've decided after a four year absence to start a blog again. I do not expect to be particularly good as this is my third post so please don't hold your breath for the next post because if you do you will be dead. Links to this post. This is a test post from. A fancy photo sharing thing. Links to this post.

Maggie's adventures in London. I have mini adventures at least twice a week in London. I set off early with my camera and I deliberately get lost. Saturday, 5 March 2011. This is a Banksy. It's been removed and is now only seen in exhibitions. This blog will not concentrate on Banksy because even I would find that a little bit boring. I will try to show only graffiti that I consider to be art or interesting or both with a bit of luck. It was taken in an alley near Brick Lane. Now this next piece of stree...

Maggie's adventures in London. I have mini adventures at least twice a week in London. I set off early with my camera and I deliberately get lost. Friday, 11 May 2012. There are hundreds of old and interesting and beautiful lamps in the streets of London. I'll start on the Embankment. I love these lamps, they are very ornate and usually have a dolphin at the base with leaves winding up the post to the lamp above. Can you imagine a London (or any large city) street without lighting? Even the posts are int...

Maggie's adventures in London. I have mini adventures at least twice a week in London. I set off early with my camera and I deliberately get lost. Sunday, 31 October 2010. The cemeteries of London. I find them fascinating places to visit, especially Victorian ones. Something had to be done! A wonderfully detailed book worth reading is 'Necropolis: London and its dead' by Catharine Arnold. This is the abandoned chapel in the centre of Abney Park. Built in the Gothic style of architecture that the Vict...

Maggie's adventures in London. I have mini adventures at least twice a week in London. I set off early with my camera and I deliberately get lost. Wednesday, 12 May 2010. Postman's Park is unique. There is nowhere else quite like it. It's one of London's little gems and worth seeking out. It's located in Little Britain, which is a short walk from St Paul's cathedral. The lower plaque shows the story of Arthur Regelous. When I posted this to flickr a descendent of Mr Regelous got in touch with me! This ph...

Thursday, 29 March 2012. Politicians, what an extraordinary bunch they are. For some time now there has been the threat of strike action by fuel tanker drivers. The dispute, as is often the case, being about pay and conditions. The press, as expected, has been stirring up concerns over fuel shortages which would lead to huge disruptions. Affecting personal vehicles and, more importantly, public services and. Politicians…….don’t you just love ‘em! Labels: foot in mouth. Monday, 5 March 2012. To take a loo...

London Ramblings: Death In Notting Hill
http://malcnhg-londonramblings.blogspot.com/2013/07/something-very-strange-was-going-on-in.html
Tuesday, 30 July 2013. Death In Notting Hill. Closer still, I found that they had been scattered over the bodies of two dead foxes! Some of the flowers appear to have been in the form of a garland but that may have been just the way that they had fallen. I didn't have time to forensically examine the corpses but a couple of things were obvious. Firstly, if they were road kill, they had been moved from where they had been hit. They were laid neatly side by side and on their sides. . Thirdly, they appeared...

Wednesday, 17 April 2013. Margaret Thatcher.the Final Act. So, it's finally over. Margaret Hilda Thatcher has been despatched to meet her maker (if you believe in that kind of thing). Surely one of the most controversial and divisive figures in modern British history, her funeral has resulted in as much discussion as her entire political career. The cortege, accompanied by a military escort and the band of the Royal Marines, then made its way along Fleet St and up Ludgate Hill to St Paul's. This attitude...

London Ramblings: September 2014
http://malcnhg-londonramblings.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, 14 September 2014. A Walk Under The River. There are three accessible pedestrian routes under the River Thames. The Greenwich. Foot Tunnels are both well known and well used, I've been through both of them on many occasions. The third one came as a bit of a surprise to me. Work on the Rotherhithe Tunnel. Commenced in 1904 and it was opened by HRH The Prince of Wales (later King George V) in 1908. Linking Limehouse. On the north bank with Rotherhithe. So, this morning, I joined two friends, Jane.

London Ramblings: More North Pole News

Tuesday, 25 September 2012. More North Pole News. As a follow up to my last post. The North Pole is currently decorated with these signs following a gathering of protesters on Saturday. I'm slightly surprised that the banners were still there on Monday afternoon, but perhaps Tesco were not aware that a protest had taken place. 26 September 2012 at 04:17. Here are some of my pictures from the protest. We must keep fighting the Tesco takeover! Https:/ www.facebook.com/media/set/? 26 September 2012 at 08:42.

London Ramblings: Fly the Thames

Monday, 8 October 2012. What I don't get is mountain climbing. Why would anyone subject themselves to the pain and misery of clinging to a sheer rock face, not to mention the exhaustion and the ever present danger of plunging hundreds of feet to your death or ending up dangling on a rope with several other climbers like party bunting in a Tim Burton film. We're a bit short of Alps in London (except in Beckton. But we do have a cable car. But because it is just plain ugly down there. With all sorts of...

London Ramblings: April 2012

Monday, 23 April 2012. Getting to the Point. It seems that the sanitisation of St Giles continues. Plans have been announced to transform Centre Point and its immediate surroundings. Built by property tycoon Harry Hyams. And designed by Richard Seifert. Whatever the reason, this prominent building came to be regarded as something of a white elephant until Hyams finally agreed to let it out floor by floor. In 1995 Centre Point became a Grade 2 listed building and despite being described by Pevsner. If you...

Maggie's adventures in London
Maggie's adventures in London. I have mini adventures at least twice a week in London. I set off early with my camera and I deliberately get lost. Wednesday, 17 August 2016. Art Deco and Art Nouveau in London. The talk is fascinating and the inside is sublime in its Art Deco decor. Lady reading a book, Upper Berkeley Street, Westminster. Very typically Deco, clean lines and simplistic. I think the motifs look stunning on this Waterstones shop on Portugal Street. It's part of the LSE campus. Bracken House...

Nový začátek. :). Uvažuju nad novým začátkem. 16 května 2014 v 14:47 MaggieMaiiツ Moje kecíky:). Mám opět hroznou náladu na to, abych blogovala. Možná začnu opět i s YouTube. Maggie Makes Stuff
A place of craft related ranting. Monday, 1 April 2013. Sadly I was recently struck with a horrible chest infection. I'm now thankfully recovering but while I was off work I did a little bit of crafting to pass the time. The theme seems to be rainbows. I made a cover for the arm of our chair which is a little bright but I had fun making it. Thanks to my wonderfully short attention span I haven't gotten round to making he second one. I decided to have an experiment with learning entrelac crochet. Sadly I ...
