Carthage Volunteer Fire Department of Rush County Inc. has a very dedicated member roster consisting of 28 men and women. Of those 28 members 13 of them EMTs and 1 First Responder. All members have fulfilled at least the state minimum requirements to be a Firefighter. Current officers for the current year are. Assistant Chief Karen Lee. Fire Lieutenant Ron Smith. Carthage Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1953 with thirty-three members. The fire department joined the Indiana Volunteer Firemens Association on July 12th, 1954. On November 9th, 1961, the fire department was incorporated and became known as Carthage Volunteer Fire Department of Rush County, Inc. They had eight board of directors, three incorporators, two vehicles, and fifty dollars. Site created by Mike Erwin.
