Making and Living

Tuesday, January 27, 2015. It's been so long since I have posted anything here, I have been too busy with work, house building and family life. But, I have had some time here and there to sew. I have had a lot of fun recently making all sorts of things from dresses, skirts to a baby sleeping bag and hot-water-bottle covers (posts to follow). Here are the skirts I made. I used a really good free patten from StraightGrain. The fabric in the photo above is. The third skirt I made was for the girls cousin's ...

Making and Living: August 2014

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, August 27, 2014. About 7 years ago, I started studying herbal medicine at the Scottish school of Herbal Medicine. It was a 4 year BSc degree course, in everything from nutrition, botany, physiology, clinical training to massage. However I only completed 1 of 4 years, because the work load was too much in combination with raising my girls. I am still very passionate about it and. I have every intention to continue at some point in the future. Marigold as it is commonly known). For the ointment;.

Making and Living: April 2014

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Saturday, April 12, 2014. I got the sewing bug again. A while back I started following a blog about sewing called Straight Grain. And it has really inspired me to dust off my sewing machine and get busy making a dress for little girl. This dress had a few firsts for me; first pattern I bought, first time I bought fabric on the internet, first invisible zip and first time I have ever made something without having to unpick at some point. The pattern I used was the. Hanami top and dress. Links to this post.

Saturday, May 10, 2014. For the pastry;. First make the pastry by mixing the butter and sugar. Until smooth, then add the flour and egg yokes. Mix. Well but not for too long, it might be easier to do this with your hands. Make a ball from the pastry and put it in the fridge for later. For the filling;. 150g maple syrup (or syrup of choice). 100g halved pecans for on top. Melt the chocolate and the butter together and let it cool for a bit. Mix the eggs. Links to this post. Alive and Smiling: November 2011

http://aliveandsmilingiferia.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html

Sunday, November 27, 2011. Today, I made this cake for my family. I was inspired by a dutch magazine I bought this week. There was a picture of a beautiful pie in it with these words written on the pie : WE ARE SO GOOD TOGETHER. And indeed this is how I feel when I think of my kids and husband. Lately we've been a very busy family, even during the weekends. And today, we were all at home so I decided to treat them well and I wanted to celebrate us just because we are a family. Alive and Smiling: October 2011

http://aliveandsmilingiferia.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 25, 2011. While we were looking for chestnuts this weekend, we suddenly noticed this little fellow hiding. Of course it's not hard to hide if you look like this. Our youngest one couldn't resist him and followed him around until he could pick him up. He was really gentle with him and the frog didn't move at all while he was holding him. He was probably scared to death. But luckily he was freed again after taking this picture! Monday, October 17, 2011. Quince jam : recipe. Remove the seed...

Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Yep, we went to Paris with the kids. They were dying to go all the way up to the top of the Eiffel tower. And although me and Sara are afraid of heights, we did it! I hope every one of you had a great summer too! Sunday, August 28, 2011. Guess where we went this weekend? Thursday, August 25, 2011. I was so happy I could still spot some nice flowers on my walk this morning. Saturday, August 20, 2011. I'm really impressed Dana! You are so talented! Wednesday, August 17, 2011.

A Taste of Earth. NURTURING ABUNDANCE and INSPIRATION ON OUR FARM IN THE MIDDLE OF EUROPE. January 26, 2013. At last I am beginning to feel the urge once again to write. Our Siberian winter has eradicated the notion of linear time and feels just like an endless experience that has neither beginning nor end, no particular direction nor impulse to change. Life goes on here, regardless. Schools and shops stoically remain open and the short days hold few goals beyond keeping home warm and bellies full. Chill...

A Taste of Earth. NURTURING ABUNDANCE and INSPIRATION ON OUR FARM IN THE MIDDLE OF EUROPE. January 25, 2014. From Vision into Action. I have a week with the girls whilst Flo is in England. It feels like a good opportunity to consolidate loose ends, catch up on emails and focus on our written work. Our handful of veg boxes last year attracted a solid core of supporters and showed us that even with existing schemes in the area, there is a hunger for more. We will plan for forty shares (each calculated ...

A Taste of Earth. NURTURING ABUNDANCE and INSPIRATION ON OUR FARM IN THE MIDDLE OF EUROPE. August 27, 2012. Hens and Galician Spice. There they will meet the sheep, moved once again with as much hassle and frustration as before! A very popular dish in Galicia is fried, whole peppers, but not just any old peppers. These are small, green and deceptively mild. The catch is that every now and then you will come across a spicy one, and then it is really spicy! I sat for an hour or so, de-seeding and chopping ...

Making and Marking | Tales of a teacher learning to dressmake

Tales of a teacher learning to dressmake. A bit about me. Pick a Pattern or Two. August 18, 2015. Whilst visiting Cardigan last week, and keeping my eyes open for a fabric shop – though resisting googling to find one for definite – we spotted something called The Eco Shop. It was like a charity shop but larger, cheaper, and more jumbled. Almost immediately I saw the box of sewing patterns, marked 30p each! Back at the cottage I carefully sorted through the patterns and tried to marry up the loose pieces&...

Making and Maturing – For the body of Christ at Green Pond Bible Chapel

For the body of Christ at Green Pond Bible Chapel. Christmas on a Sunday? December 23, 2016. Let me plead with you: worship Jesus with the gathered body of Christ on Christmas day. This year, as happens from time to time, Christmas falls on a Sunday. Here’s the raw truth: church attendance at most churches on Christmas day is much lower than normal. Why is this the case? I would like to offer a counter-cultural voice this year: make going to church on Christmas day a priority for your family. It’s hard e...

make do and mend

Make do and mend. My English life in France. Wednesday, January 22, 2014. AS you know, i quite enjoy making something for not a lot of money. I have quite a few recipes from the second world war, most of these are quite frugal with the ingrediants, but in this day and age, i think we all need to be quite clever with our store cupboard ingrediants. Here is a recipe which does just that, its very tasty and very cheap to make. 1/4 pound of meat. 1 cup of haricot beans. Wednesday, January 22, 2014. I the bas...
