Autumn Leaf Farm: The first of August

http://thehuckinshome.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-first-of-august.html

August 9, 2015. The first of August. He begins to let his body slump into mine as we walk. The warmth of our body's tucked closely together, it's sweaty. It's good. Not quite asleep yet, he grabs for leaves on the trees we pass. I pause and let him touch and feel them. We follow the warn tractor paths. Paths used for decades and decades to cut the hay, to gather firewood, to reach the woods. As we enter the woods, the humidity is cut back with the cool forest floor beneath us and tree canopy shading us.

Autumn Leaf Farm: August 2014

http://thehuckinshome.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

August 29, 2014. Jason's brother and Matt sent me a sweet little mommy-to-be gift. So thoughtful. We found out we would be welcoming a healthy baby boy in November! We were thrilled (and would have been either way). We went out to dinner after and discussed baby names. Such a memorable day. Our first boy purchase :). Along with some boy shopping. My brother gave us a cute little Portland onesie around the time i ordered a Oregon bib from Dig This Chick! Friday, August 29, 2014. August 16, 2014. After usu...

https://taylorstoermer.com/2015/08/10/what-colonial-williamsburgs-charity-navigator-downgrade-to-2-stars-does-and-doesnt-mean

August 10, 2015. August 26, 2015. What Colonial Williamsburg’s Charity Navigator Downgrade to 2 Stars Does–and Doesn’t–Mean. Non-profit evaluators such as Charity Navigator. Of the business of public history — they read the numbers so that you don’t have to. This comes to mind because Charity Navigator just downgraded Colonial Williamsburg (CW). But what does all that mean for CW today and, more importantly, for the health of heritage tourism and the livelihoods that depend on them? Master narrative, att...

I'm Living History: October 2014

http://imlivinghistory.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 9, 2014. I recently read a blog post by one of my favorite bloggers Kitty Calash. So that means they must not have been very rich. I ended up explaining it to my trainee this way: if the Goodwins lived today, they could not afford their own private jet, but would fly first class. Yes they had money, but they were not part of the 1%. See there were gradations back then too. Read this entry on entry page. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I'm Living History: Variety in Living History

http://imlivinghistory.blogspot.com/2015/07/variety-in-living-history.html

Monday, July 6, 2015. Variety in Living History. There is no one Living History Experience. Last month we had a lovely variety of LH experiences, and I’ve been reminded again how there is no such thing as a typical reenactment, if you keep your eyes peeled and your mind open. A small group of us went to visit a middle school down in Connecticut, where we got to sit down with the kids, and they could ask us anything. Anything! Getting ready for an Immersive Overnight. How to attach stuff to your Frau.

http://imlivinghistory.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Book Review: The Same Ax, Twice. Same Axe Twice: Restoration and Renewal in a Throwaway Age. I found the whole to be fairly melancholy: guys reviving old engines are described as puttering among the exhaust and nostalgia. American progress is described as a sad state of affairs. After a section on the Nevada atomic test sites Mansfield concludes: “American places are but a moment’s bright flash, followed by long, confused memories.”. Read this entry on entry page. Monday, May 4, 2015. Clothing the Renaissance Child: It Takes a Guild. I feel like I need to apologize because I have had so little time to sew, craft and create historical stuff. What I can do is profusely thank all the wonderful people in my life who are making it possible for me to continue reenacting and participating in Living History as a family. Some of the clothes made by my guild mates for little Landsknecht. Along with the hand-me-down clothes was a fleece hood that Brittney made for Lilly....

Making History Now | The Christian "movers and shakers" from past centuries have a lot of relevant things to say to us today!

The Christian movers and shakers from past centuries have a lot of relevant things to say to us today! August 13, 2015. Women of Vision and Action for God’s Kingdom: the Beguines. An intact Beguinage, at Antwerp, Belgium. The Church was not well placed to cope with this new climate. A group called the Beguines. Rose to the challenge.
