From our own Correspondent – malaysianmeanderings

https://malaysianmeanderings.com/2016/10/30/from-our-own-correspondent

October 30, 2016. From our own Correspondent. Journalists do it all the time (allegedly). Get some of their best information from taxi drivers, that is. So here, in honour of several entertaining conversations, are some of the thoughts of KL’s driving fraternity:. 8216;Malaysian language is easy. Even stupid people can learn it in 5 months’. Oh dear. That puts us in our place.). We covered a lot of ground in a 15 minute trip. The conversation started – ‘English? Ah yes, May, Theresa May. A Sumatran drive...

Sarawak Strolls 4 – malaysianmeanderings

https://malaysianmeanderings.com/2016/10/11/sarawak-strolls-4

October 11, 2016. November 19, 2016. We thought our trip to Sarawak would be an opportunity to practice our Bahasa Malaysia language skills. However, as we learned from the website of the Tourist Board:. 8220;Iban* is generally used in Sarawak, however, English is widely understood”. We did try our Bahasa, only to be told “it’s different here”. Ah well. So much for our language lessons. We do enjoy them, though. They forgot to mention Bidayuh and Penan and Melanau. September 15, 2016. September 15, 2016. If only I knew…. Grab Car’s promotion for this highly patriotic season (Independence Day a couple of weeks ago, Malaysia Day 16th September) is to offer a free ride to anyone who proves they are proud to be Malaysian by singing “Saya anak Malaysia*” when the car picks them up. 8221;I am a child of Malaysia”. By the way, don’t you just love/hate autocorrect? It wanted to correct “saya anak” to “says analyst”. Hmm. 4 thoughts on “ If only I knew…. Peter and Jane Akers.

Sarawak Strolls 3: Q is for… – malaysianmeanderings

https://malaysianmeanderings.com/2016/10/07/sarawak-strolls-3-q-is-for

October 7, 2016. Sarawak Strolls 3: Q is for…. Perhaps I should explain? The name of Sarawak’s fascinating, charming capital city is also the Malay word for ‘cat’. (My favourite of a number of theories is that it comes from ‘mata kuching’, literally ‘cat’s eye’, local name for the longan fruit). Whatever the reason, cats are the symbol of the city, and crop up all over the place. No, we didn’t visit. Although, or was it because, we were told it has over 4000 exhibits, many of which are from the...You are...

Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Exercise – colours into tones in B&W. April 18, 2014. I was required to take a photo with good clear colour, and then to convert it to black and white and use various filter effects to change the image. Using a digital camera and Lightroom, I found a suitable picture, and converted it to B&W:. Converted directly to B&W in Lightroom. So dark and luscious! The red parts of the image are darkened, but a lot of detail lost. And the negative this:. The posit...

A Flickr acquaintance of mine has been investigating the concept of Ma in relation to her photography. A concept I did not recognise until I checked it out, and found the words ;negative space’. This, of course is a common concept in art in general, so I decided to have broader look at it in photography. The Japanese character “Ma”. Http:/ www.flickr.com/photos/byam family/5728117399/. The expat adventures of a Texas family living in Penang, Malaysia. Saturday, October 7, 2017. Nine Can't Miss Activities in Kauai. Wild and isolated Na Pali coast. See the teeny tiny person on the beach at the center of the photo? In my last post, I mentioned that we had an unusually relaxing vacation on the island of Kauai. As I compiled this list of cant miss activities, I surprisingly realized that we actually did quite a lot. I think the key to not feeling rushed is that we spent a full week. On the ...
