Cycling and working in Manchester

Cycling in Greater Manchester can be very rewarding - and challenging at the same time. I have been doing it regularly for five years and have never regretted it. This blog is a collection of impressions - if you find anything of any practical use, that's great too.

Middle Age Cyclist: July 2012

http://middleagecyclist.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

The ramblings of a Manchester cyclist. Thursday, 12 July 2012. So, I was cycling home after the last of three very busy, long days at work (and I mean longs days of 13.5 hrs! Looking forward to seeing my wife and having a wee dram. The weather was dry and warm, the traffic was very light and it was still daylight despite the time of 21.00hrs. I was wearing a bright red cycling jersey and had my lights on. What could go wrong? I shouted in a Victor Meldrew type way. "How could you not see me? By now peopl...

Middle Age Cyclist: Getting A Grip

http://middleagecyclist.blogspot.com/2012/01/getting-grip.html

The ramblings of a Manchester cyclist. Sunday, 29 January 2012. Most cyclists will know there are three points of contact a cyclist has with his/her standard bicycle. For those non-cyclists who might be reading (welcome) these are the: pedals, saddle and handlebars. Three points of contact. Damaging the bar tape and so needing to re-tape it. Not an urgent job but it has been a bike maintenance week this week so I got on with it. When I first got the bike the bars had a slide-on foam tube which looked OK ...

Middle Age Cyclist: Cycling Back To Happiness

http://middleagecyclist.blogspot.com/2013/12/cycling-back-to-happiness.html

The ramblings of a Manchester cyclist. Thursday, 12 December 2013. Cycling Back To Happiness. Thought this might be worth sharing. Apologies if you've already read it elsewhere. Early on in 2013 I began to feel a bit down never really having suffered with personal mental health issues before. I shrugged it off as I took delivery of my new bike, the days lengthened and I prepared for the 1400km London-Edinburgh-London. Audax (LEL) at the end of July. Come October, LEL and Super Randonneur. A good few year...

Friday, 11 January 2013. After a long dormant period I've decided to come back to my blog, dust off the cobwebs and settle down to entertain/bore you a little more. "Why does he want to do that? Middle Age Cyclist: February 2013

http://middleagecyclist.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

The ramblings of a Manchester cyclist. Monday, 4 February 2013. LEL Prep - Weeks 3-5. So my wife collected me from a pub a few whiskys later. The next day I hobbled into work (A&E) and got an XR of the leg. No bony changes found - PHEW! The pain also changed in nature and became more of a band like pain down the outer thigh so probably muscular in origin. Painkillers helped and within 3 days I was walking almost normally. I didn't ride the bike for 5 days though! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Cycle A 2 B.
