An interesting 4-digit number | ReTRIeVIA
https://retrievia.wordpress.com/2007/12/20/an-interesting-4-digit-number
An interesting 4-digit number. You know the 4-Digit lottery is big business in Singapore. Whenever someone buys a new car, he/she is likely to place a bet on the number. Of course, once in a while somebody’s car number will win a substantial prize, and reinforce the hypothesis that a ‘new’ car number is ‘lucky’. 1-cube 12 cube (1 1728), and 9-cube 10-cube (729 1000). How Ramanujan could do all these mental gymnastics was just incredible. Re-trievia recalled: Excerpts from Year 2002. Written by Ivan Chew.

Lost on the street. Just another lost soul. You seemed to like these the most. March 23, 2010. We passed out of school and took up different streams in Junior College and gently drifted away. Till two years back we got in touch through Facebook and tentatively we re-introduced ourselves. This time as two individuals me without my ‘gang’ and she relieved of the burden of carrying the image of the ‘perfect school girl’ (sorry K :P). And guess what? They say Assamese women can weave dreams in their looms...

Lighthouses play an important part in the safe passage of ships through rocky waters. Singapore has several lighthouses built for this purpose and three of them were featured on stamps in 1982. Horsburgh Lighthouse, built in 1851, is located about 65 km south-east of Singapore. The lighthouse stands on a rocky outcrop, known as Pedra Branca, in the South China Sea. 7 June, 2010 at 1:00 pm. Nanyang Gateway Arch (part 1). Although more than half a century old, the Nanyang Gateway Arch still evokes powerful emotions among Chinese-educated Singaporeans and Malaysians. Some colleagues have asked me where the Arch is located. There is a replica of it in the garden in front of the Chinese Heritage Centre on NTU Campus. However, the location of the original arch is outside the campus. It is near the junction of Jurong West St 93. Picture courtesy of Lam Chun See. See also this link. This morning I...
