running commentary?: July 2014
http://gsnider.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Thursday, 24 July 2014. It's weird being normal weight. It feels like everyone who's gained weight assumes everyone else has too. I wear a size small t-shirt, sometimes an extra small. But I'm not small. Body proportion-wise, I'm what a doctor might call "nothing unusual". Mentally it's another story. Below this is me, my BMI that is. The entire range in which it's existed since the last 10 years. Sunday, 20 July 2014. Multi-cycle training: outline of a possibly-new training method. Was one, arches.

Sunday, 18 January 2015. Numbers, numbers, everywhere $#%# numbers. Passing from the Christmas sales straight to New Years resolution territory come more gadgets for sports than ever. My sister-in-law got one of those fit bits for xmas, I got a new watch, and loads of people out there are testing GPS devices some variety and figuring out what to do with them. My god, what do we need some of these measurement things for? 5) Other stuff (. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Tweets by @not running.

running commentary?: February 2015
http://gsnider.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, 15 February 2015. Age-category dominance by continent. It is well-known the most competitive runners are between the ages of 18 and 39, and equally understood African runners dominate within this age bracket. But runners outside this age bracket also compete (either as masters, youth, or other specific age category records). I wondered where might one find the best runners at any given age? Depending on how old you are, where can you train with the fastest peers? North and South America. AND, AUT...

Friday, 10 April 2015. Today I was talking to someone who admitted his step sister is a naturopath. If I look up the definitional of naturopath. In wiki, I find nothing unexpected:. Naturopathy or naturopathic medicine is a form of alternative medicine employing a wide array of "natural" treatments, including homeopathy, herbalism, and acupuncture, as well as diet and lifestyle counselling. Just the other day, I overheard the women in our office discuss expensive vitamin supplements, excited by the prosp...

running commentary?: October 2014
http://gsnider.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 28 October 2014. I found these quotes from CBC articles on oil prices, from 2012 and 2014, looked rather peculiar when placed side by side. CBC April 2012 article. Brent oil @ 120$/barrel]:. CBC October 2014 article. Brent oil @ $85/barrel, and dropping]:. Expensive oil is bad since we aren't the ones refining it (and it seems we're in no position to build our own refineries). Cheap oil is bad since we can't sell Alberta's stuff at profit. As long as oil trades at exactly 100$ we're ok, ...I don...

Saturday, 6 December 2014. Google ngrams for running economy, lactate threshold, and VO2max. I wanted to explore the relative importance people place on difference aspects of running, regardless of how important the really are. So here is a book-indexed trend for each of the terms VO2max, running economy, neuromuscular training and lactate threshold. NB: On an earlier version of this post I had entered Vo2max and found a different, erroneous, trend. All sorted out now. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

running commentary?: March 2015
http://gsnider.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Sunday, 22 March 2015. Halifax has been getting an unusual amount of snow. This year. It will certainly be interesting to see the 2015/16 HRM budget plan, which is still be tabulated. Hundreds of centimetres of snow, estimates are that the city will be minimum $10 million over budget. But how does that compare with previous years? A hint of something deeper going on: a report from the Metro Halifax newspaper noticed that snow removal has been over budget for the past six years. Weirder yet, another story.
