A Reading with Marian Haddad | Bamboo Cupping Rainwater: Sasha Pimentel Chacon

Bamboo Cupping Rainwater: Sasha Pimentel Chacon. February 5, 2008. A Reading with Marian Haddad. 8212; sashachacon @ 5:39 pm. Last night the poet Marian Haddad. Her reading last night, along with Daniel’s reading, was full of such confessions, awareness of the body and its unbearable lightness against other bodies, the juices that one “grinds” oneself in driving home, and of the weeping walls of the birth canal. Daniel and Marian tag-teamed reading for the full room at EPCC. And in various Arab-American,...

Chacón in Chuco: October 2010
http://soychacon.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 18, 2010. On An Ordinary Day in El Chuco. It was Sunday, and I admit, I'm stealing the title of this blog entry from a great book by Willis Barnstone. Called On an Ordinary Evening in Buenos Aires. In which he walked around the city with Borges, charlando, charlando, the labyrinth that Geogie loved best. So one afternoon (many afternoons) I walked around El Chuco with my camera. I paused before doorways and windows. And got caught in. . . Okay, maybe that transition was a bit sophomoric).

Chacón in Chuco: August 2013

Thursday, August 22, 2013. Demon in the Tree. One day at the Grand Canyon, when I snapped this picture of Benjamin Alire Sáenz, I imagined we were being visited by aliens from another planet. Who knows why, but that's why the image struck me. I saw their space ships coming over the canyon and imagined Ben was contemplating his last days on earth. Were they really there? Well, they are now. If I feel the presence of spirits when I look at something, I want to represent that image as I feel it. What is tru...

Chacón in Chuco: November 2010

Wednesday, November 10, 2010. The Expendables: Cuesta una vida solo 4 ‘pennies’. I read it on the news. So it must be true. The one that serves El Paso/Ciudad Juraez, reports that a life is worth four pennies. Which life I wonder. Wednesday, November 3, 2010. When I walk around the city shooting street photography, I am often stuck by people I see, so, of course, I want to take their picture. Like these ladies going down an elevator. They saw me, and they clearly know I was taking their picture. Whereas ...

Monday, August 29, 2011. True believers at the Albuquerque Cultural Conference. Everyone there was a true believer. They believe in justice, equality, women’s rights, the need to fight racism, but mostly, they believe in poetry. They believe in the healing and changing power of words, and some of them believe even in it’s revolutionary potential. The Albuquerque Cultural Conference took place on the weekend of August 26-28, 2011. These believers not only attended sessions back to back for over ten hours ...

Chacón in Chuco: July 2011
http://soychacon.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 20, 2011. Moses and I went out on another one of our creative days. We often get together on days that I’m not teaching or when he doesn’t need to be in the office, and we bring cameras or sketch pads and go out and seek to sample the beauty of El Paso. You can click on any of these images to get a better look. What is beautiful about Chuco is often times is a bit rasquache. Rasquache as an esthetic has long interested me, and I can see why so many artists and writers come out of El Paso.

Saturday, December 29, 2012. Cats Space People Cup d-oeil Bangkok 2012. They came right up to me, no matter how street worn or how much experience, they came up to me, some of them got on their bellies, while others, fresh from flesh-demanding fights just looked at me, not afraid. They let me scratch their necks, they closed their eyes and purred. 8220;How could you? I cried, in tears. What’s wrong with you? These cats in Bangkok made me think of love.
