On the way to Louisiana Music Factory. We stopped by Envie Expresso Bar and Cafe. We were in the mood for charbroiled oysters for dinner, but Acme was swamped and Dragos was a 30 minute wait, so we swung by Popeye '.

IF I LIVED HERE. I'D BE DEAD BY NOW. Thursday, October 9, 2014. 2014 Trip - Day 7 - October 9. We started our day at Wink's Bakery again, splitting a breakfast sandwich and an order of buttermilk drops. After breakfast we headed over the bridge to The West Bank and did some thrifting and then drove into Algiers Point, since we're considering that as one of our move to places next year. In Spartanburg, SC. She also liked my gumbo, and she's not a big gumbo eater like me. I think they have. Coop's had a li...

Give me something I can write about. July 21, 2015. A post I wrote a couple of years back. Has been making the rounds again, and has brought with it a bunch more followers. I am really NOT the person to look towards for sanity and wisdom, y’all. So I feel a responsibility to let folks know that while I do a fair amount of talking about recovery, it’s not the ONLY thing I talk about, and a lot of times you’re going to also get stuff about Alzheimer’s, zombies, and garden variety potty humor. This: ‘...

The Standoff | Lisa McColgan

Give me something I can write about. June 2, 2015. I had today what I can only call a Ladies’ Room Standoff. Or Sitoff. I don’t know. This has happened before. I go in, needing to.take care of business that’s a little more complicated than just a tinkle, and someone’s already in there, in the other stall. Fine. Maybe that person is finishing up; I’m thinking she’ll flush, wash her hands, maybe check her hair, and I can do my thing in peace and solitude. And I realize that this person is not going to leave.

Give me something I can write about. Dear Friends I Saw Play Last Night –. August 26, 2015. What a great show. Seriously. You all transported me for roughly an hour back to a place where music was pretty much the only friend who’d never abandon me. Sometimes you forget how important certain artists/albums/songs were in your formative years. Last night was a nice reminder. But when I saw you after you’d finished playing, I was stiff and awkward and not as animated as I usually am. But I still felt bad....

Give me something I can write about. 8220;Masshole.”. June 25, 2015. Here in Massachusetts, some of us are celebrating the fact that the Oxford English Dictionary. OED) has seen fit to make “Masshole” an official word:. Term for a native. Of the state of Massachusetts. Now, I have a problem with this notion that this is a “contemptuous term.” Perhaps outside of the Commonwealth, it’s used contemptuously. Around here? Badge’a fahkin’ HONAH, kehd. They really should’ve asked me first, that OED. Get every n...

Give me something I can write about. August 10, 2015. Most of the time, I feel supported, if not entirely understood, in terms of my being open about addiction and recovery. Friends and loved ones take the time to read what I write, and engage in respectful, supportive discussion. It’s enough to make me feel pretty good about what I’m doing. That’s why it’s always a punch to the gut to hear someone describe people like me in some really unflattering terms. If we really wanted to. I also know what it&...

January 27th, 2009. Tonight my friend was walking through the Quarter (Toulouse/Chartres, by Ralph and Kacoo's or howeveryouspellit). At the end of the block in the direction he was walking, two black-hoodie-clad sketchy guys were hanging out. When he looked behind him, another had suddenly appeared. Having some street smarts, he recognized the set-up for being rolled. Powered by LiveJournal.com.
