History of Marsden Band. Marsden Band was a typical village band, spending its time rehearsing for and playing in contests and playing at the usual social events organised by the local community. They also participated in local celebrations such as a march that was held to mark the end of the Boer War. In addition to supporting the musical development for the groups within the organisation, the Marsden Musical Institute is also available to hire. Our function room regularly hosts local events, and is available to hire for a variety of functions from birthday parties to corporate events. The room is supported by a working kitchen, music PA system, projector and television equipment, and adjacent to the room a smaller room (the Members room) is also available to hire for quieter and breakout sessions.

Working at the pit. Marsden Inn and Grotto. Welcome to the Marsden Banner Group website. Marsden Lodge represented the men who worked at Whitburn Colliery (Also known as Marsden Colliery). The Whitburn Coal Company began sinking Marsden Colliery in 1874. Coal production started in 1882. In 1891 the Whitburn Coal Company hit financial difficulties and the colliery was absorbed into the Harton Coal Company. The colliery closed in 1968 the final shift came up from the shaft bottom on 7th June.
