Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. 2016 Winter Racing Calendar. Newer posts →. December 27, 2014. Photo Credit: The fabulous Todd Bauer. I decided to put some structure into my Fat Bike racing training this winter. I don’t do so well training without a plan. The only time that worked for me successfully was the year I raced 65 races and my training plan was just racing. . . . A LOT. I’ve been trying to get back into the habit of doing yoga but unfortunately it’s not a habit yet. My train...

Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. 2016 Winter Racing Calendar. Monthly Archives: November 2012. November 27, 2012. Why is this race so much fun? The people who put it on have a lot to do with it. Hard work, low (almost no) cost, riding in the dark through the suburb streets and trails I should know by now (but don’t), AND a beer stop. Added bonus was the new winners sash Anne Quinn made, instead of the painful but cool crown made from a chain ring I got last time. November 27, 2012.

The leaves are changing, temperature is dropping, time to start thinking about FAT BIKE RACE SEASON! I know, I know, so many people are sad to see the warm weather coming to an end, but I can’t wait for the snow to fall and winter racing season to commence. Races in Phalen Park in St. Paul and the Grizzland night race at Elm Creek. 8211; St. Croix Falls, WI. 8211; Crosby, MN.

Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. 2016 Winter Racing Calendar. Monthly Archives: January 2015. Carver Cold Catfish Cup. January 31, 2015. Carver Cold Catfish Cup is one of my favorite races. I’ve been racing at Carver in the winter since they started racing there. . .back before I even owned a fat bike. It’s a great biking scene and awesome single track without many hills. . perfect in my eyes. After race antics: Love, love, love doing the race recap at the finish line with people. ...

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two): This is NOT the Post I Wanted to be Writing Today

http://longtracklife.blogspot.com/2014/08/this-is-not-post-i-wanted-to-be-writing.html

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two). Photo by Steve Penland. Tuesday, August 26, 2014. This is NOT the Post I Wanted to be Writing Today. Instead of writing about any of these things, though, I need to write about this:. I've soared to new heights in the "cover yourself. Yes, those are my legs, my ace bandage, my immobilizer, my crutches. Damn" doesn't even begin to cover it. Then I started set five. So as I completed the second lap of the four lap set I was thinking about what my skates were doing&#4...

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two): July 2015

http://longtracklife.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two). Photo by Steve Penland. Saturday, July 4, 2015. Don't Take it for Granite. Which leads me to the bad pun in this post's title. Turns out that taking qualifying for granted was very premature. This year, the Granite Games folks have upped their advertising campaign and the end result is that there are now 81 competitors in my age class, from as far away as Tasmania (that's in Australia, apparently). And these old chicks are good. Is not conducive to maximum speed.

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two): Short Week

http://longtracklife.blogspot.com/2012/12/short-week.html

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two). Photo by Steve Penland. Thursday, December 13, 2012. It's been a short week of skating, and it looks like the odds are about 50/50 that it will get even shorter. I got cold and slow. So I quit a bit early, but it was a good skate. We just got 15 inches last Sunday (why, yes, yes I am. Sick of the phrase "Winter Wonderland," why do you ask? Although, to be honest, it is. December 14, 2012 at 10:46 AM. You have snow up there? The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two): Granite Games Sectionals part 3: Drop it Low--On One Leg

http://longtracklife.blogspot.com/2014/06/granite-games-sectionals-part-3-drop-it.html

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two). Photo by Steve Penland. Saturday, June 28, 2014. Granite Games Sectionals part 3: Drop it Low- On One Leg. Last winter, the Hubster and I stood in an ice arena parking lot talking to some friends after a women's broomball game the Hubster had coached. One of the women was dancing around to someone's radio, and her boyfriend made a comment about "dropping it low." When I responded with a puzzled look and a "huh? Now try it on one leg. This is what is called a "pisto...

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two): This Winter Blows

http://longtracklife.blogspot.com/2014/03/this-winter-blows.html

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two). Photo by Steve Penland. Saturday, March 1, 2014. It is March first. It is zero degrees, with -18 windchill. It's also the last weekend of the 2013-14 long track skating season here in Minnesota. At the end of the 2011-12 season I was moved to poetry. At the end of the 2012-13 season I did a boring bullet-point recap of the season's highs and lows. OkI now present to you my Ode to the Season of 2013-14: This Winter Blows. I can't feel my fingers. I can't feel my toes.

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two). Photo by Steve Penland. Thursday, June 14, 2012. Race Report and Skate Test. I had managed to resist the urge to have their inaugural skate be the Baxter Inline Half Marathon, but these beauties. I packed up the above skates- stock Bont Cheetahs with 4x100mm wheels- as well as my "usual" skates, custom Bont Apaches with 4x90mm wheels,. And then my "old setup,". I figured I'd do the test in this order:. 3 New Cheetahs with 4x100's and new bearings. That's almost 3 s...

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two): 15.2--Short and Sweet

http://longtracklife.blogspot.com/2015/03/152-short-and-sweet.html

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two). Photo by Steve Penland. Saturday, March 7, 2015. 152- Short and Sweet. After 15.1's "nine minutes to achieve four toes-to-bar" debacle, 15.2 was looking mercifully short. In fact, I was pretty sure it would take me just three minutes. 152 looked like this:. For as long as possible:. 10 overhead squats (95 / 65 lb.). 12 overhead squats (95 / 65 lb.). 14 overhead squats (95 / 65 lb.). Etc, following same pattern. Well, pretty sure anyway. Kristy Kreme: November 2013

http://kristykremeadventures.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 8, 2013. From "Audit" to "Awesome". Wednesday marked the first audit we've ever had for the bike shop which meant three weeks of shitty sleep, worry lines, and trying to piece everything together for a nine-hour day of high blood pressure and anxiety. Lucky for us, we got a very nice auditor who helped show us the proper way to do things as he identified our mistakes, but it didn't do much to lessen the stress of the whole day. Yeah, a little biased, but it's comforting to know he was th...

The Long Track Life (and a WOD or two). Photo by Steve Penland. Saturday, October 27, 2012. Go Get 'em, Sharon! I had intended to do a post about the stuff I learned in the Salt Lake Masters Camp (which was a lot), and about my plans for the upcoming ice season (which at present don't exist). But I just can't quite figure out what I want to say, and so I won't say anything. At least about that. Fortunately there are more fun things to write about. My blog friend Sharon, of Speed Skating Mom. I just kept ...

Winter sunshine in Brockwell Park. As the song goes 'Baby it's cold outside! OH had to go back to work today but I still had one day of freedom left. We woke to an incredibly cold and frosty morning so I went for a walk to my favourite park to take some pictures of the frosty scenes as the sun began to rise. Made by Me Christmas Special. The tree stumps are made from sticks of cinnamon to give them the smell of Christmas. Whose work I adore (and whose new book. I got for Christmas - yay). I've been m...

Martha Loves Sitka

Sunday, August 9, 2015. We love Lake Eva! Michael and I got yet another opportunity to be flown out to Lake Eva by Harris Air. As always our pilot John gave us a safe and entertaining flight, passing me over some goats on the way to catch a photo. Never a dull moment with John in the pilots seat. We fished everyday and did darn good. I actually caught my very first salmon since moving to Sitka and it went from my fishing pole to my frying pan! We arrive at Lake Eva-first order of business. Time to go home.
