We usually think of the development of musical instruments as a slow process. However, the desire to make better instruments has inspired flute makers throughout the centuries to create significant innovations. Boehm's metal flute design, which went against the beliefs of his time, became a standard and the classic of the 20th century. Flute is a traditional artifact, but each period has created it's own models to satisfy the human demands of music, creativity, knowledge and technology.
