Sea Kayaking: Bass Strait Crossing

http://mattbezzina.blogspot.com/2010/03/bass-strait-crossing.html

The ocean is wilderness. Sunday, March 21, 2010. Generally we had good weather. There were two big highs moving across Bass Strait but there were also a number of cold fronts associated with these especially between the two highs. These fronts were producing strong SE to SW winds which meant we had to do quite a bit of waiting which really didn't matter because although we were stranded we were in paradise and enjoying every minute of it. Rabbit Island on route from Port Welshpool. Now on our 7th day we ...

Sea Kayaking: A day out with The South Coast Legends

http://mattbezzina.blogspot.com/2015/02/a-day-out-with-south-coast-legends.html

The ocean is wilderness. Wednesday, February 25, 2015. A day out with The South Coast Legends. Three of us Sydney paddlers were honored to be invited to The Pancake Paddle down at Mystery Bay on the South Coast. We had the pleasure of paddling with some legends of kayaking. I hope I can still paddle as strongly as some of these folks when I'm their age. Looking North from The Mystery Bay camp ground. John Wilde and Mike Snoad brief the group. Laurie Geoghegan - Builder of the famous NADGEE.

Sea Kayaking: April 2015

http://mattbezzina.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

The ocean is wilderness. Thursday, April 23, 2015. A trip to Yakushima Island (Southern Japan). It's about 140 KM all the way round and would be a fantastic paddle. We timed our arrival with that of a low pressure system and rainy weather but that was not going to dampen our spirits. As soon as we disembarked from our ship we were on a bus and heading to the start of the track that would take us over the highest bit of the island and over to the other side over three days. He used a local boat that he he...

The ocean is wilderness. Tuesday, June 17, 2014. A Video I filmed together with Fernando at The Tollgate Islands off Batemans Bay. Video by Fernando. Has really shaken things up with his fearless attitude and rapid aqusition of skills. I just hope he makes it to old age! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Interesting Kayak Sites and Blogs. Sea Kayaking: A Landing at North Head

http://mattbezzina.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-landing-at-north-head.html

The ocean is wilderness. Wednesday, June 10, 2015. A Landing at North Head. On a calm day mark decided to land just around the outside of North Head. So we did. Lining up the exit. Not to be put off by bad timing Marks powers on. A quick self rescue by Mark and we were on our way. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Interesting Kayak Sites and Blogs. NSW Sea Kayak Club. Sea Kayaking, mostly. Wednesday, 28 September 2011. The Hawkesbury: picking a paddle. I’m training for the Hawkesbury Classic again (. Http:/ www.canoeclassic.asn.au/. Eighth consecutive year, the second time I’ll be doing it in a single. On the last weekend I did a 40k return training run from Wiseman’s to the far side of Last Pit Stop. I joined Raewyn, Neil, Mark Schroeder and Roger White. Ready to go, Rae's Flash in the BG. My Mirage in front, with Aleut on foredeck. My options for boat were Greenland...

Sea Kayaking, mostly. Monday, 24 October 2011. Down To The River. The Hawkesbury Canoe Classic: Australia’s most famous paddle marathon, an alleged 111km down the Hawkesbury overnight. This was my eighth time along the creek, second time solo. Cathy doubled up with Rae to paddle the 730, I was in my trusty Mirage 580. This time around I was using the Greenland blade, Ron Steinwall’s #228 carbon fibre number. Most of the NSWSKC paddlers. Usual palaver: a carload of gear, food, water, registration, scrutin...

Sea Kayaking, mostly. Sunday, 28 September 2014. What is the impulse that always drags you on, around the next bend, the next headland, over the next ridge? It’s so strong and so seductive. it must be hardwired. Why is it that you need to consciously decide to stop while your soul, left to its own devices, will trundle on happily forever exploring the next unseen thing? No exactly a beauty parade, but look at that determination! Munyang carpark, dry as, bro. This year we also found new country. Two y...

Sea Kayaking, mostly. Monday, 7 July 2014. A short weekend at the snow. So it all looked good: finally the snow-drought had broken, a week of decent falls and an optimistic outlook. After canning a trip on the June long weekend (too much bushwalking) suddenly it seemed the snow gods were lining the ducks up. I had arranged with the unsuspecting Mark Schroeder to head down, and then found my prior travelling companions Tony Murphy and Karen Darby were also planning to be south. Last we'll see of it. Sea Kayaking, mostly. Tuesday, 1 May 2012. In mid April we were fortunate enough to have Greenland gurus Cheri Perry and Turner Wilson visit. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to attend their clinics due to work but they held a club day on Sunday . I’ve put together a video of the demo that Cheri did with Turner narrating. Cheri demonstrates 37 different rolls. I missed shooting ( of all things) the standard roll and balanced brace, so that would make it 38 rolls. Here's what's in the video:. Roll With A Rock.

rocky spray: March 2014

http://rockyspray.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Water, rock and movement. Monday, 24 March 2014. Fishing in the blue cave. I lead this trip the last day of RnR. I was leading Selim and Vincent. We went into many crevasses, over some rocks and some caves. One of the caves was reckoning moment for Selim. My wife thinks I exaggerated a bit with the music. What do you think? Tuesday, 18 March 2014. Tollgates Islands and Rock and Roll. Wade about to run dry. Lots of fun around. Mr Honey in his boat. Paddling inside the islands. And around the islands.

Sea Kayaking, mostly. Friday, 31 January 2014. I began to hanker for a new challenge. A couple of years ago I bought some Carbon Fibre sticks from Ron at Novorca. I had no idea how such things may be made…. This is the point at which the Imp of the Perverse habitually stirs on my shoulder and whispers into my ear the familiar words: “How hard can it be? The plan crystallised in my mind: a core carved from solid balsa, sheathed in a composite sleeve and locked in layers of fragrant epoxy goodness. Then of...

Jewelry as an artistic expression is how I describe my work. I have strived to learn and master whatever technique serves my design purposes. This has led to studies in granulation, platinum fabrication, glass beadmaking, glassblowing, and fine cast glass and crystal. Stretching outside conventional jewelry in an artistic manner, I focus on form, beauty and function.

The ocean is wilderness. Thursday, April 27, 2017. Downwinder in a strong southerly - Malabar to Watsons Bay. This is a bit of footage from a go pro mounted on the front of Rob Mercer's Audax. The first part is punching out through the incoming swell to get enough sea way before rounding the rocky headland to then run with the wind. Generally Recognized As True

Generally Recognized As True. The personal blog of Matt Buckley-Golder. Almost everything on this blog is wrong, but it's usually my best attempt at expressing the truth as I know it at the point in time I write it. Thursday, March 08, 2018. Data, privacy, good AI, and stupid AI. With so many hands after my data, I occasionally think about the extent to which personal data should be protected. My answer is that I'm not too concerned about protecting my own trivial data. But having seen what #metoo. I don...
