A math blogging exploration. January 22, 2016. I teach AP Calculus this year. Today, while exploring the trapezoid rule and Riemann Sums, a student said, “Is this going to turn into limits? 8221; Then I smiled, nodded, pointed at him and got really excited, to which he replied, “Oh, no I said some thing to make her do that excited thing again.”. 6 thoughts on “ My Favorite. Algebra II Highlight | Vertical Asymptote
https://verticalasymptote.wordpress.com/2016/01/12/algebra-ii-highlight
A math blogging exploration. January 12, 2016. We’ve completed three hefty units in Algebra II so far: Functions (including trig), Quadratics and Polynomials, and Exponents and Logs. For these kids especially, Algebra II is HARD! We use Day Meyer style concept testing, so kids have multiple opportunities to show their knowledge, and they can retest outside of class even after a concept is done being tested in class, but this cohort usually doesn’t retest. Just a crazy math teacher turned instructional coach. Middot; professional development. Middot; teaching resources. Musings about Assessing and Advancing Questions. January 30, 2016. January 30, 2016. But after hashing it out and then actually teaching the lesson, I realized that all of the planning was the best thing I could have possibly done for my students’ learning! So, any advice on how to help teachers see it as a valuable tool? What are your thoughts about it in general? Has anyone used it before?

Understanding Quadrilateral Properties | Vertical Asymptote
https://verticalasymptote.wordpress.com/2015/02/27/understanding-quadrilateral-properties
A math blogging exploration. February 27, 2015. I have been working with my strategic geometry students to help them understand the properties of quadrilaterals. I want them to understand more than just the basics, but the ins and outs of when a property is sometimes true, and what makes that sometimes case happen. I have a student teacher this semester, so I guided him to a great website. A new blogging challenge →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public). You are...

Pros and Cons of AT | Vertical Asymptote
https://verticalasymptote.wordpress.com/2014/01/03/pros-and-cons-of-at
A math blogging exploration. Pros and Cons of AT. January 3, 2014. Here is how AT works now:. 1 We have a computer program designed for scheduling. 2 On Mondays, students go to homebase, which is sorted by grade, with academic advisers. Here students meet individually with the teacher to decide what they need to work on that week, and schedule where they intend to go on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Teachers send an email to students with their schedule for the week. AT is 30 minutes long. As a final ...

January 8, 2017. January 9, 2017. Fish, Google, Teacher Desmos and Twitter (& piecewise functions). A couple of times a week I receive an email like the one below. In the last couple of years my response to these emails has slowly changed. Instead of sending something that I find, I send a response like the one I sent today…. I am finding I need to add to this blog post with a bit more information. So this post is part 1 of 3 I will do in the near future. I went to my favorite search engine, Google.
