Birth Story Part 2 | the red thread

Those are the stats. Here’s the story. The day before, I had gone for a nice long swim before the end of the outdoor swim season at our neighborhood pool. Peter had just finished a slew of paint jobs and we rested all day. That night we grabbed burgers at L’il Woody’s in Ballard ( I the Fig and the Pig! I started pushing a...

Skip to primary content. June 23, 2013. I think I’ve had a very sterile perception of the relationship between death and life. Like one is black and the other is white and there can be no gray. When one starts, the other stops. And the pattern. Just like Christ – life, death, resurrection, the end. The life/death continuum is linear and has a beginning and end, right? The seed has to die before the new plant can sprout. But what about seasons? And the phases of the moon? But they’re still different.

Skip to primary content. Birth Story Part 1: Anticipation/Incubation. November 3, 2013. The thing was this: when we met with our midwives at Midwife Seattle, they made it clear that by committing to birth with them, I would be committing to birth without any form of pain medication. Without pain meds, eh? Also, that Home Birth = Water Birth…damn you, Ricki Lake.) I was also trying to maintain an equilibrium in myself of hope and the reality of whatever was to come. Skip to primary content. I am a doula and childbirth educator and am pregnant with my first baby. My job and passion has been to empower women to embrace and trust the wisdom of their bodies and inner knowing and to create space for them to birth their babies and themselves as mothers. All of this is based in my belief that pregnancy and labor and breast-feeding are some of the most powerful and empowering experiences of womanhood. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Monthly Archives: May 2010. May 15, 2010. Red thread, as this blog is titled, symbolizes so much – the life blood that women’s bodies issue with the turn of each moon, the passage of blood generations from mother to daughter, and so much more. Here’s a rough sketch of how the original myth from the mother culture goes:. The Journey of Ariadne. As Ariadne grew in wisdom and knowledge, she began to question her father, the king, and the reasoning behind d...
