History, Archaeology, Travel. Monday, April 7, 2014. A Gut Wrenching Experience - Kamikazes at Okinawa. I had the opportunity to interview a World War II US Navy veteran for another project recently. I thought I would share here also. All photos are courtesy of Zane Geier. US Navy 1944 – 1946. Interview by Mark Hubbs. Someone who does not know Zane Geier would have trouble realizing he is 88 years old and a veteran of World War II. He is easy to smile; an active man with an engaging sense of humor. Zane ...

History, Archaeology, Travel. Thursday, March 12, 2015. An Ancient Face Revealed. I don’t have any tattoos, or “skin illustrations” as Ray Bradbury called them, but don’t have a real objection to them on other folks if they are tasteful and well executed. I overheard a person say some time ago that the kids didn’t tattoo themselves so much back in the “old days.”. I guess that fellow had a different idea than myself on what constituted the “old days.”. The "Ice Princess" of Siberia, is a perfect example.

History, Archaeology, Travel. Tuesday, November 26, 2013. My Sorrow Knows No Limit. In 2000 a unique archaeological find in Andong City Korean captured the imagination of the Korean people. The archaeological site was a tomb with a remarkably preserved mummy. At 5 foot 9 inches he was tall for his people, especially in his day. His dark hair and dark mustache were still intact. Eung-Tae died in 1586, four hundred and twenty seven years ago. These poignant notes remind us that the human heart is timeless.

History, Archaeology, Travel. Tuesday, January 28, 2014. A Tomb For The Lost King. I’ve presented several updates on the search for and discovery of the remains of Richard III in past blogs. Since his recovery and positive identification, a legal battle as ensued over where his last resting place should be. I’ve followed this story closely because of my interest in British history and because my alma mater the. University of Leicester led the archaeological effort to recover the remains.
