When snow is heavy, they have to paw away snow to reach the vegetation below. The M41, or the Pamir Highway (Russian: “Pamirsky Trakt”, Памирский тракт), is the road traversing the Pamir Mountains through Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. It serves as the main supply route to Tajikistan’s Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) and international tourists will require a GBAO permit to travel the route in Tajikistan.
