A place to express my gratitude. December 24, 2013. Grateful for time with daughters and their kids today. Saw the movie Frozen and was grateful about what didn’t happen. Kids made yummy treats and a vegetarian potpie for me. Between retirement and the upcoming anniversary of losing mom, I am quick to tears, but it is all good and I am looking forward to Christmas with part of the family and the adventures of post retirement life. A place to express my gratitude. 3-14-15 Gratitude Journal (Pi Day). March 15, 2015. Although I loved the dry heat at almost 100 degrees today, I am thankful we had rain recently and grateful for a cool place for Tashi to sprawl. I am grateful for finding a good home for some of my late husband’s jazz albums and for friends coming in tonight from Wichita. What a beautiful day! Tashi is tired after the heat of the day. Stuffing them in my ears, my eyes. I was going to meditate. I was going to do yoga. I turned on the computer. Holding the mouse, my hand aches. The opiate of FaceBook. Doesn’t really erase the pain. Maybe hides it for a moment. Substitutes one pain for another. Rattles words in my head. To hide my thoughts.

Chase me, chase me. Through churchyards and headstones. I reached out and grasped soft wings against my palm. In my youth, she hid behind napalm clouds of war. Fluttered above a guitar in songs of peace and equality. Was forgotten in the headiness of first love. Lit briefly in the comfort of second. Mocking, mutant memories.
