Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits: November 2009
http://sjmantillaortiz.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits. Monday, November 30, 2009. Last year as we prepared for our senior art show it was suggested we seek professors who were not so familiar with our work and get varying perspectives on it. One of the professors who saw my work really loved my palette and asked me to describe it, “they're (my colors) a bit like earth tones kicked up a notch,” I suggested. “Yeah! The tropic is alive. It is intoxicating. It is within. I am on the verge. Friday, November 27, 2009. I told her ...

Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits: October 2009
http://sjmantillaortiz.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits. Friday, October 30, 2009. It always begins with the hair. Well perhaps that is not entirely true. Often it begins with me asking one of my friends to pose in somewhat ridiculous positions, “um lauren do you think you could walk around on the tips of your toes, while simultaneously bending your legs, as if you could not just walk around but more like take huge lounges and as you do it twist your torso from side to side? And a series Burst. And as always it is an attempt ...

Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits: CONCEPTIONS PART II: BOUNDARIES
http://sjmantillaortiz.blogspot.com/2009/12/conceptions-part-ii-boundaries.html
Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits. Wednesday, December 9, 2009. CONCEPTIONS PART II: BOUNDARIES. Boundaries in Providencia are fluid. Nature seems to rebel against fences. Overpowering them; mixing the private with the public. Even when there is not a sense of rebellion, the boundaries between what is man-made and natural blend. They exist as part of a continuum. Admittedly since the place belongs to the pizza. It really shouldn't be much of a problem. Merging the air and the ocean. It is a larger establ...

Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits: THANKSGIVING
http://sjmantillaortiz.blogspot.com/2009/11/thanksgiving.html
Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits. Friday, November 27, 2009. Every so often something happens that reminds me just how little and also how much I know. She was so impressed though with the programs that have been set up by community leaders, a lot of them priests, who are doing a lot with very little to help their community. She was surprised that a lot of these priests were not even concerned to push religion on people but just wanted to help. This made me happy to hear. November 28, 2009 at 6:39 AM.

Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits: THE CHILDREN OF PROVIDENCIA
http://sjmantillaortiz.blogspot.com/2009/11/children-of-providencia.html
Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits. Wednesday, November 18, 2009. THE CHILDREN OF PROVIDENCIA. Every day when we go to lunch as we walk down one block to the beach we see children getting home from school to have lunch, riding their bikes, waiting at the pre-school to be picked up by parents. They laugh and shriek and really bring the middle of the day alive. As I was about to leave, the youngest boy started saying hello to me and smiled at me as he said, “No le tomes fotos a ellos! Take pictures of me!
