Ben and Jo in Micronesia: bye bye
http://benandjoinmicro.blogspot.com/2008/06/bye-bye.html
Ben and Jo in Micronesia. Friday, 13 June 2008. Well, I'm still having real trouble posting photos. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It is an apt metaphor for living here. But we needed to. You know, 5 parties a week for an extended period are probably too many - especially if you commit wholeheartedly to every one, as I am wont to do - but I am glad to have performed this experiment as a social service and spare anyone else the physical side effects of going through it themselves. Jo, you forgo...

Ben and Jo in Micronesia: September 2008
http://benandjoinmicro.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Ben and Jo in Micronesia. Thursday, 11 September 2008. Well, it's been a couple of months since our Pohnpei adventure wound up. Jo and I are back in Canberra, Australia, for the next little while. What have we been doing? Joey has been looking cute. I have been indulging my sporting side. Seeing the sights of Canberra in winter. I went to Bega and Merimbula for a week with my students. Saw an oyster farm and factory. There are a mum and baby seal on those rocks in Twofold Bay, Eden. Our new dog Jock!

Ben and Jo in Micronesia: October 2007
http://benandjoinmicro.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
Ben and Jo in Micronesia. Monday, 22 October 2007. We had a pretzel tragedy, which we dutifully cleaned up and put the poor sandy pretzels in the rubbish bag. Then I noticed the hermit crabs going CRAZY and trying to tear the bag open. so I thought, what the hell. As if a bit more salt is going to hurt them. They were so funny - turns out they can't eat the preztels, they just drag them around. Friday, 19 October 2007. GSI: Gecko Scene Investigation. Gang warfare turned nastier that usual? Our friends ha...

Ben and Jo in Micronesia: May 2008
http://benandjoinmicro.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Ben and Jo in Micronesia. Sunday, 18 May 2008. Plane crash on Pohnpei. On Friday afternoon I was at home, and the roar of the tuna plane engines as it was landing was louder than usual, but I thought nothing of it. Until that evening the word was spreading that it had crashed off the end of the runway upon landing! There was word that the passenger jet would be landing on Monday regardless. Not sure I would want to be on that flight. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Ben and Jo in Micronesia: March 2008
http://benandjoinmicro.blogspot.com/2008_03_01_archive.html
Ben and Jo in Micronesia. Friday, 21 March 2008. This weekend was a biggie - three parties, a scuba dive and a chick flick to cram in. Given that I repeated the karaoke/3am thing again on Friday night (no duet with the Governor this time, hallelujah) I'm pretty impressed I managed to fit it all in. I blame Mary for the karaoke, by the way. When it's your last week on island you can get people to do anything. But it's really because we all want to scream "DON'T LEAVE US! YOU NEED TO STAY! Back to my epiph...

Ben and Jo in Micronesia: Gods
http://benandjoinmicro.blogspot.com/2008/07/gods.html
Ben and Jo in Micronesia. Wednesday, 2 July 2008. I have developed a minor obsession with the island of Nukuoro and its gods (pre missionary, naturally. I will spare you my thoughts on missionaries). Nukuoro is a little atoll near Pohnpei (relatively speaking). It is very different to Pohnpei cultrually, as its inhabitants are polynesian, not micronesian. (There is another polynesian island in Pohnpei state, called Kapingamarangi). Maybe that's how nan madol got built. These are my babies:.

Now A No-Evil Zone. As of this morning I work for Google. The title is “Developer Advocate”. The focus is Android. Fun is expected. Xb7; Google and I have been a plausible match for a long time. Web-centric, check. The list goes on. We’ve talked repeatedly over the years, but the conversations all ended at the point when I said “.and I don’t want to move to the Bay Area”. Then that changed. The process started with Dan Morrill. Who led me to Mike Winton. Xb7; It’s now too big to be purely good or ...

Ben and Jo in Micronesia. Wednesday, 2 July 2008. I just love tropical flowers. Mmm Fruit plate at the Village. Ben and Jo in Micronesia: April 2008
http://benandjoinmicro.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Ben and Jo in Micronesia. Tuesday, 29 April 2008. We also had meetings on the Big Island, so I got to go to Kona and Hilo. We were there on the weekend, so on Saturday we went to see the Volcano park. I love volcanoes. They are so cool. Half the park was closed when we were there due to dangerous level of noxious gas, but we still managaed to see the 'park highlights'. Big crater. In the eighties, this was full of molten lava. Cool, eh? On Hawai'ian culture, the volcano is a goddess. With the floor leader.

Ben and Jo in Micronesia: August 2007
http://benandjoinmicro.blogspot.com/2007_08_01_archive.html
Ben and Jo in Micronesia. Tuesday, 14 August 2007. I've just got back from a 2 week sojourn to the FSM islands of Kosrae, Chuuk and Yap. Stopped in to Guam as well. It was a work trip but surprisingly pleasant! I've just got to get through the 40,000 emails in my inbox and do some reports, then I'll get back to posting indulgent photos of myself very soon. Ps I moved the other posts Ben finished to the top of the blog, I think it's easier that way. Pps I went scuba diving with giant Manta rays on Yap!
