Middle Grades Maven: Making Inferences

http://middlegradesmaven.blogspot.com/2014/11/making-inferences.html

November 06, 2014. Sorry that I've been MIA since August. I've been going through a rough patch in my personal life, but it's been getting better. So, I'M BACK! I wanted to blog on the reading skill I've been teaching this week! It's such an important skill for students to grasp, and it's realllllly important for students to use evidence (quotes) from the text to support their answers. I MAY or may not have used this for my recent observation. ). CCSSELA-LITERACY.RL.5.1. For watching a video with your st...

Middle Grades Maven: Classroom Reveal

http://middlegradesmaven.blogspot.com/2013/08/classroom-reveal.html

August 14, 2013. Update (7/26/16): I have also added some new emoji products to my TpT store to go with the tech. theme! I am finally done organizing my classroom! I loved the border with the clothespins from last year (I had it on a strip above my students' computers), so I decided to hang it in my section of the hallway this year. It makes putting up and taking down student work so much easier! I colored the clothespins with permanent marker and hot glued them to the thumbtacks. To create my sign.

Thursday, 25 September 2014. Addition sort - regrouping or no regrouping. This is a little activity my class did this week. They cut out the headers and the sorting cards and (in small groups or pairs) decided if these are problems that require regrouping or not. They can then solve the problems if you wish. You could laminate these and the children could write on them with dry-erase pen or you could leave them without laminating and they can write on them (but not use them again! Or on the image below.

Middle Grade Strikes Back

Sunday, 9 August 2015. Imogen's Book of the Week: First Class Murder by Robin Stevens, published by Random House. My Sunday best this week is a gripping locked-room mystery, starring two intrepid schoolgirl detectives. The Wells and Wong series of murder mysteries, featuring youthful Detective Society members Daisy and Hazel, got off to a superb start last year with Murder Most Unladylike. Set in the regimented environment of Deepdean, a 1930s boarding school for girls. In book two, Arsenic for Tea.
