Back to Normansfield Hospital. Rsaquo; Langdon Down Centre. The Langdon Down Centre. Is responsible for the upkeep and management of the theatre. It also has a museum called the Langdon Down Museum of Learning Disability where you can find information, memorabilia and an exhibition of artefacts made by James Henry Pullen (1835 -1916). The Down’s Syndrome Association. Rent their offices from the LDC and are based at the top floor (former ward Cedar House). Published in aid of the Langdon Down Centre.

Back to Normansfield Hospital. This beautiful Victorian theatre, also known as ‘Entertainment Hall’, was built in 1879. The architect was Rowland Plumbe (1838-1919). In those days it was used as an entertainment centre and a church. Every thursday evening it was concert time where residents and staff were able to perform. The Christmas pantomime was written by the langdon Downs and was a great success. We always celebrated Christmas at the theatre, which was organized by the day centre staff.

Back to Normansfield Hospital. Rsaquo; Haydon House. During my stay I lived at Haydon House. It was an ideal place to meet other staff members. Sometimes we organized barbeques or late night pizza deliveries. Also the expenses were an important reason to live on site, as it would have been very difficult to find an affordable flat in the area. Back to Normansfield Hospital. Rsaquo; Main building. Normansfield was first known as ‘White House’. It included 5 acres of ground to start with, but extended to 40 acres towards the river-bank. The name was changed into Normansfield, a tribute to his friend and senior partner in a law firm, mr. Norman Wilkinson. In 1869 the south wing for women.
