Learning to Follow: March 2015

Sunday, March 15, 2015. The Badge of Busyness. I have been pondering "busyness" lately. It seems that most interactions with others involve the word busy. RVA is notorious for its hectic schedule. Missionaries who serve in the "bush" visit RVA and while we marvel at how they can live without running water, electricity and a local supermarket, they will often look at us at comment, "I could never keep up the pace you do here! Yet, aren't we all busy to some extent? By Your Side" by Tenth Avenue North.

Learning to Follow: Rain....a blessing and a curse
http://jjhazard.blogspot.com/2015/05/raina-blessing-and-curse.html
Sunday, May 10, 2015. Raina blessing and a curse. We decided to postpone our departure by a half hour, hoping the weather would improve. By 8:30 am, the skies were still cloudy, but the rain had stopped. We headed out in our two vehicles, towards Mary's house, which should have taken about 30 minutes. About half way down the hill, we realized the roads were much worse than we expected. In fact, one of the vehicles got badly stuck in this mess. As you can from these pictures, more rain is on the way!

Sunday, May 31, 2015. Learning about American History in Kenya. This month, I have been teaching my fifth graders about American History - specifically, pioneers and the Civil War. It has been an exciting time, but I do have to laugh at some of my non-American students - "Why are we always learning about AMERICAN history? Fill in the blank with their home country. Or "Why do you keep saying us? I hope to make it come alive and be exciting for my students too. Posted by Jeff and Joyellen Hazard. We decide...

Saturday, February 7, 2015. What Have We Been Up To? It seems my blog posts have been much fewer and further between than the early days of this blog. I guess it's a little thing called teaching full time! I do find my days to be very full and busy, but then again, who doesn't? Mixed in with our little update are a few pictures from this half term. Read the captions to see what we have been up to. What have we been up to? Our kids had a great time playing the kids at House of Hope. Before we left, the li...

Monday, June 9, 2014. We had a good first half of term. Here are a few highlights of our 6 weeks:. The elementary students participated in a "Fun Run" last week. The younger kids did a half mile and the older ones ran a full mile. I (Joyellen) helped to time the kids and encourage them! Here is my (Joyellen's) fourth grade class that I help with each morning. They are a sweet bunch! Ian and his friend Kelly at the elementary Field Day a few weeks ago. It was a fun day of cheering on our favorite team -.

Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Megan was so excited to go this year! She has been looking forward to 6th grade safari since she was in kindergarten. And I (Joyellen) was invited to go along as the camp cook. What a great privilege to hang out with these super kids! I couldn't be more thrilled for Megan to be a part of this class. They were a wonderful bunch - helpful, kind, adventurous and spirited. I can't wait to see what the future holds for them! Posted by Jeff and Joyellen Hazard. Jeff and Joyellen Hazard.
