mugwump Chronicles: May 2014
http://mugwumpchronicles.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
I am a horse trainer and a story teller. Friday, May 30, 2014. As you guys know, I think my animals are perfect. I write about them in such glowing terms it's as if they were/are wonder dogs and horses. To me, they are. However, there is the reality. Snocone, who is making huge strides in her awareness of the world around her, has started coming to me when she wants something she feels is my job to handle, usually food or going outside to pee, or to Jim, who is for love, ear scratches and cuddles. Becaus...

mugwump Chronicles: October 2014
http://mugwumpchronicles.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
I am a horse trainer and a story teller. Thursday, October 23, 2014. I was in a piss poor mood. K was mad at me, the wind was up, weather was rolling in and I was three horses behind. I had a client coming in to ride, and she was bringing an out-of-state friend, Pat, with her for a double lesson. Normally I enjoyed working with Elaine. She was a trainer and riding instructor, rode a nice horse and was fun to talk to. Pat was clearly a member of the club. Elaine, what have you done to me? What do you mean?

mugwump Chronicles: February 2014
http://mugwumpchronicles.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
I am a horse trainer and a story teller. Friday, February 21, 2014. Having Parkinson's is a lot like being locked into a slapstick comedy act at a Vaudeville show. For you littlun's who aren't familiar, Vaudeville was a travelling show, popular from the late 1800's to somewhere in the 1930's, made up of several different, unrelated acts. There were acrobats, singers, skits and of course, slap stick comedy. Brockle is an obsessive ball playing freak. I keep it from becoming a vice by saving his ball f...

mugwump Chronicles: November 2014
http://mugwumpchronicles.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
I am a horse trainer and a story teller. Wednesday, November 26, 2014. It was hot in Albuquerque. The heat shimmered on the horizon and even in the early morning hours it washed over us in waves. Our horses still had their winter fuzzies, it was late May and even the stalled, blanketed, live-under-lights show horses had more hair than they needed. We had left Colorado during a spring blizzard and 24 hours later, were showing with an expected high of 98 degrees. All the other horses in the warm-up pen lop...

mugwump Chronicles: September 2014
http://mugwumpchronicles.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
I am a horse trainer and a story teller. Wednesday, September 24, 2014. I was given a surprise hour of freedom yesterday. There wasn't enough time to run errands, besides, the dogs were with me and it was too hot for them to wait in the car. Charlie tried to stay properly outraged, but once they broke apart and stood panting in the cool water, he couldn't hide his grin. The dogs and I looked north at the exact same moment. Two men were approaching. They had the unsteady gait of the drunk or high,...They ...

mugwump Chronicles: January 2014
http://mugwumpchronicles.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
I am a horse trainer and a story teller. Thursday, January 30, 2014. First off, I gotta say, this video (link is posted between photos) made my heart zing. Yes, the old Mort ridin', brush poppin', yee ha Janet of yesteryear's first reaction was, "I want to do that too! Then of course, reality set in. Old. Crooked. Shaky. Wrong horses. Wrong Saddle. Wrong country. Oh well. Look at those cool horses! And the country side! And, and, the mud! Oooh, I want to run in the mud! The refusals didn't start until af...

mugwump Chronicles: January 2015
http://mugwumpchronicles.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
I am a horse trainer and a story teller. Friday, January 23, 2015. It wasn't until I entered the world of reined cowhorses that I heard the term "open horse." The term was closely followed by "non-pro horse.". It seemed there were two kinds of cowhorse. Those suitable for open riders, the people that competed at a professional level, and those meant for the non-pros, or the people who didn't ride for a living. There was more. I had strapped on my big girl chaps, and sold the horse I had poured sweat ...

mugwump Chronicles: April 2015
http://mugwumpchronicles.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
I am a horse trainer and a story teller. Monday, April 20, 2015. I am working on a horse post. It's about collection. It's really haaaaaard (can you hear the whine? In the meantime, a theory about how Brockle has offered some of his behaviors has wriggled through my mind. This is pure speculation on my part. It does come from the knowledge I've been absorbing since I decided to study dog training and behavior. I would love some feedback. He made direct eye contact again and again. His eye contact was uns...

mugwump Chronicles: There is Never Enough Time
http://mugwumpchronicles.blogspot.com/2010/03/there-is-never-enough-time.html
I am a horse trainer and a story teller. Thursday, March 4, 2010. There is Never Enough Time. I have got the next installment so close I can taste it. My fingers are itchy and my mind is racing. I also have had more interruptions. Than I can cope with and I won't be able to post tonight. Arrrgh. I will keep writing, I hope to keep hearing from you. I am thinking more and more about the sensitize/desensitize issue. A laid back horse compared to dull? The colt (a very patient, good boy BTW) was walking alo...
