Birding in Murcia (Spain): April 2014

http://murciabirder.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html

Birding in Murcia (Spain). Wednesday, 30 April 2014. Is it all over? The last week of April is normally a good week for passerine passage migrants, and this last week didn’t disappoint! Together with Mick Brewer, I’ve been at the lighthouse gardens at Cabo de Palos every morning apart from Saturday 26. When we took a trip to the ‘saladares del Guadalentin’ – more about that later. Carrying on from my last blog entry, Wednesday 23. Wasn’t a spectacular morning, with just 6 Willow Warblers. And male Common...

Birding in Murcia (Spain): April 2015

http://murciabirder.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Birding in Murcia (Spain). Wednesday, 29 April 2015. Trip to the ‘Saladares del Guadalentín’. Although I’m out most of the time in the Spring looking for migrants, a special time for me is my first visit of the year to the ’Saladares del Guadalentín’ when I know that the Rollers have arrived. I got to the ‘saladares’ at just after 11 0´clock – a bit on the late side for there, as it was starting to get hot. I headed straight to the Guadalentín. And some closer views of a Roller. After a while they stoppe...

Birding in Murcia (Spain): February 2014

http://murciabirder.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Birding in Murcia (Spain). Thursday, 27 February 2014. A walk in the park. I heard yesterday that in a park in Santa Ana, near Cartagena, some Redwings which were first seen a week ago were still around, so this afternoon (Thursday, 27. Feb) I had a walk around the park. I spent about 30 minutes watching them until the heavens opened when I headed back home. Part of the park at Santa Ana. There was a good variety of birds - here Blackbird, Hoopoe and Redwing. A close-up of the Hoopoe. Also wandering arou...

Birding in Murcia (Spain): November 2014

http://murciabirder.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Birding in Murcia (Spain). Tuesday, 18 November 2014. Hi all. Here is a roundup of what’s been seen in and around the Mar Menor during the last week. The weather this last week has been fairly stable, a bit windy at the beginning, but otherwise sunny and warm (up to 24ºC) during the day every day. Perfect birding weather in fact! On Tuesday, 11. And Cory’s Shearwaters. Heading south. In the gardens themselves, Starlings, Sardinian Warblers, Robins, Meadow Pipits, Black. And flying overhead, Crag Martins.

Birding in Murcia (Spain): A long weekend, so time for a road-trip!

http://murciabirder.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-long-weekend-so-time-for-road-trip.html

Birding in Murcia (Spain). Monday, 4 May 2015. A long weekend, so time for a road-trip! This weekend, in order to get away from the Mayday village fiestas and all that that entails, I decided to have a look on Saturday at the area to the extreme Northwest of the region, around Cañada de la Cruz. Once past Caravaca de la Cruz, the views are almost alpine. Driving up past Cañada de la Cruz, even more so - although the white is not snow, just the colour of the rock. Missed the Black-eared Wheatear, but got ...

Birding Sudan: December visit to Bahri

http://birdingsudan.blogspot.com/2014/12/december-visit-to-bahri.html

A blog for anyone with an interest in the wild birds of Sudan. Tuesday, 16 December 2014. December visit to Bahri. Marwa and I were at Bahri Sewage Pools again last weekend. We caught lots of Northern Masked Weavers and Sedge Warblers, plus a few Reed Warblers and other birds. The weavers had all moulted out of breeding plumage and were in bright, fresh non-breeding plumage. A few juveniles were still in the final stages of wing and tail moult. Little Bee-eater, Bahri Sewage pools 12th December 2014.

Saturday, 26 April 2014. OFFICIAL TOUR DAY 1. Having made a decision that the fog was going to hang all morning, we moved on to Loch Mallachie. Aquila Bird Tours: February 2015

http://aquilabirdtours.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 10 February 2015. Another Cheshire Lifer and a Dogs new adventure. Within 3 weeks Mani had joined our family along with Luna (Ashleys dog) and birding trips and walks were back to what we were used to. Last Wednesday afternoon (4th Feb) an opportunity came up for us to nip over to New Brighton where a 1st Winter Laughing Gull had been showing well for a couple of days. Within a few minutes Ash had located the birds and we were able to enjoy them at very close quarters for 20 minutes or so. A...

Aquila Bird Tours: November 2014

http://aquilabirdtours.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 4 November 2014. Cuckoo dips and Cheshire Ticks. On Thursday we decided to put the disappointment of dipping the Yellow-billed Cuckoo at Porthgwarra behind us and venture out on our local squares. Blakemere, Bar-mere and Ossmere were all very quiet and the only thing worth mentioning was a Drake Scaup at Ossmere. No Goldeneye today but never mind gives us an excuse to try again later in the week. What no Yellow-billed Cuckoo! Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Review of the Year.

Aquila Bird Tours: January Round Up

http://aquilabirdtours.blogspot.com/2015/02/january-round-up.html

Sunday, 8 February 2015. Just a quick round up for January. In the first two weeks of the New Year we spent a week in Nerja Andalucia Spain. The weather was warm and the birding good - full trip report to follow shortly. On the home front we finally caught up with Brambling in our NNHS squares with 10 birds present at the side of Nantwich Football Ground and 2's and 3's showing along the River Weaver pathways, behind Shrewbridge Road. Some pictures from our day out are shared here. Review of the Year.

Aquila Bird Tours: August 2014

http://aquilabirdtours.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Saturday, 23 August 2014. Unusual Local Breeding records. A second record well worth a mention is an adult male Grasshopper Warbler holding territory in suitable habitat within the breeding season. This would suggest breeding has occurred or at least been attempted this year, again on the River Weaver in Nantwich. (Library pic). Grasshopper Warbler - Library picture. Links to this post. Aquila Bird Tours: January 2014

http://aquilabirdtours.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Monday, 20 January 2014. Ring Roads and Rose Ringed Parakeets. We have spent the last 4 days working in the Sunbury and Kempton Park areas of Middlesex. As we travelled along the motorway. Near High Wycombe on the M40, the sky became crowded with good numbers of Red Kite. Apart from the thousands of Gulls on the local reservoirs and flooded fields, the other birds you can't help seeing are dozens, if not hundreds of Rose-ringed Parakeets. Red Kite (ex. library picture). A Real Big Bird. Links to this post.

Birding in Murcia (Spain), and UK visits. Sunday, 22 October 2017. Shetland 2017 - Part 3, Mainland, Shetland. The Islands that make up Shetland. Day 13 - 09/10/2017. Now back at Tingwall, Shetland Mainland, we both picked up our hire cars (mine a big FIAT 500 people carrier) and headed for the very north of Mainland, Ibister at North Roe where a Red-flanked Bluetail had apparently been showing incredibly well. The Ibister farm garden, where the Red-flanked Bluetail had been entertaining people. I eventu...
