Musings in the æther

Musings in the æther. Monday, 1 June 2015. It takes two to tango, two hands to clap - unless you are a Zen master. And it takes two to conduct a dialogue. I started the car and we made our way down the narrow spiral ramp down the car park in silence, negotiating the curves with practiced ease. While we waited at the first lights, I sighed - Its not like you are a real person. There was a pause and he said - You are talking to me. And you seem to think I am a he. You can read my thoughts, now? Remember th...

Musings in the æther: Tales from Saraswathipura - Dhavala, the white horse

http://musingsinthether.blogspot.com/2012/02/tales-from-saraswathipura-dhavala-white.html

Musings in the æther. Monday, 27 February 2012. Tales from Saraswathipura - Dhavala, the white horse. Which story. ajji pondered. Dhavala! Came the answer in unison. And Dhavala's story it was. My dad liked horses, ajji said, and Dhavala even more so. He was a white horse, pure white. Not a dark spot, not a blemish, the kind that the Maharajas ride. And what's more, Dhavala was the smartest horse that I have ever seen. Now, what takes me back to that day, what makes me sigh at those fond memories? Not ju...

Musings in the æther. Wednesday, 23 September 2009. DVG, A N Murthy Rao, Charlie Brown and a fly in the er. ointment. That should be the longest title of any of my blogs so far). Musings in the æther: Fuchsia fjuːʃə/ FEW-shə

http://musingsinthether.blogspot.com/2009/08/fuchsia-fju-few-sh.html

Musings in the æther. Sunday, 30 August 2009. Around two years ago, I was in the Achamore gardens on the island of Gigha. I was still new to my Nikon D50, and was looking for things to photograph. Amongst other things in the unique Achamore Gardens, a bright pink flower caught my eye, and I snapped it. Looking back I now feel it was a very clumsy attempt at a "macro" or a close up photograph. Neither could I recognise a Fuchsia when I saw one. The Glasgow and District Fuchsia Society. Hope you like them&...

http://musingsinthether.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

Musings in the æther. Wednesday, 6 May 2009. One day in the life of a PLAB aspirant. In 1997, I left the comfortable, well paid job I had, left the comfort of my homeland, my people and came to work in the UK. The first step in this direction was to pass PLAB. A qualifying test that foreign doctors need to pass if they intend to work in the UK. I soon found myself in East London, the home of PLABers. From the subcontinent. Several. PLAB aspirants lived there, and prepared for PLAB. And access ' PLAB.

Musings in the æther: October 2009

http://musingsinthether.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Musings in the æther. Tuesday, 13 October 2009. Homeopathy - estimating truth. This post was prompted a similar one by my cousin . here. Homeopathy is popular world wide, perhaps the most prominent of the alternative medicine systems. There is a Hospital in Glasgow, a stone's throw from my house. Having said that, I am not about to throw stones at homeopathy. The fundamental healing 'principle' of homeopathy is 'similia similibus curentur'. Or, in english, 'like cures like'. In the mid eighties, a french...

Stray thoughts.....: Tamdi Surla Revisited

http://dentaldiaries.blogspot.com/2015/06/tamdi-surla-revisited.html

Sunday, June 28, 2015. Starting point - The 13th century 'mahadev' temple built by the Kadambas, now being maintained by the archaeological survey of India. The first few hundred meters are fine. Easy going path. Cool breeze. Chirping birds. Cool streams with clear water. And then the obstacles start - crawling underneath over grown shrubbery and catching leeches all over the body. Trying to step over fallen bamboo stems - trying our best to avoid cuts and scratches. And then the falls! The path climbs a...

Thursday, January 8, 2015. Recognise the uniform at the corner of the picture? Yes, it is the traffic police official posted in front of SBI Ponda. Notice the double parked scooters? Yes, that is what he is supposed to prevent. But he appeared to be least bothered. We usually ignore both. Today I decided to question him about it. 8220;Sir, do you see those two wheelers which are wrongly parked? 8220;Then, what are you doing about it? 8220;They have just gone to the ATM”. 8220;What to do? Thursday, February 26, 2015. One of our members who went for the 1 km swim was heading for Mumbai and had to be guided back on to his path, but in the end all of them finished the distance in time and were back in one piece. The rest of us could swim the 250 mts with ease but another of my friends complained that the waves bothered him a lot. In fact they were bent up on bothering him and swelled up to their full potential especially when he lifted his head. Colva Beach - the venue of Swimathon 2015.

I don’t want to lose the tooth”. 8220;We can certainly save it. But it will need RCT and a crown”. 8220;That is fine with me”. 8220;So, when would you like to start? 8220;...

Stray thoughts.....: Concern or Interference?

http://dentaldiaries.blogspot.com/2015/07/concern-or-interference.html

Monday, July 13, 2015. The little girl hesitatingly followed her mother into the clinic. 8220;She has tooth ache since three days”. I asked the child to sit on the chair and just as the girl attempted to climb on to it, her mother lifted her and placed her in the chair. I went closer and bent down to address her. 8220;What is your name? The child was shy and took time to answer. 8220;Tell me, what is your name? 8220;Her name is Tanvi” - The mother intervened. 8220;Which standard are you in? 8220;That is ...

I am the one who is killing and I am also the one who is dying. I play this game and all of you are just pawns.”. Sunday, September 21, 2014. The road to Shantadurga. Sunday, November 23, 2014. Some More Action - Hope we do not go too fast and end up losing steam! Again, work began early in the morning and our MP was punctual. I was happy to note that he was not there just for the photo-op. He meant what he said, spent a full two and a half hours, did considerable amount of work, dirtied his hands and seemed happy that he joined us. He is the one in the center, bent down. We raised enough dust. Hope it was noticed. Where is yours truly? Saturday, November 22, 2014.

Stray thoughts.....: Extraction Under GA - A Recent Experience

http://dentaldiaries.blogspot.com/2015/06/extraction-under-ga-recent-experience.html

Monday, June 22, 2015. Extraction Under GA - A Recent Experience. Mr Raikar had a difficulty. Due to a childhood injury he was unable to open his mouth completely. And it was painful to keep his mouth even half open for more than a few minutes. Obviously dental treatment was a nightmare. I am sure so it was for his dentist. Raikar ignored all dental treatment, avoided dentists and lived a blissful life. I was almost a nervous wreck when Saurabh exclaimed “The tooth is out, Uncle.” He gave...8221; I sat d...

Stray thoughts.....: The Chief Guest

http://dentaldiaries.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-chief-guest_11.html

Saturday, July 11, 2015. My speech was appreciated, I was thanked, handed a memento, offered a cup of lukewarm and very sweet tea and discharged. I returned home walking on the clouds, carrying the bouquet and the memento. I was feeling great. My father in law who was visiting us, was sitting in the armchair reading the news paper when I returned. He was surprised to see me ‘decently dressed’ and walking in carrying the bouquet and the gift. He raised an eye brow. “What is special today? That was a good ...

One Moment at a Time . . . musings about life, history, faith and art

MLIS Thesis: Uncover the Past. Monday, November 14, 2016. Last night, a group of us had the privilege of watching a short video about pain and lament produced by one of the women at our church. The purpose, she said, was to help us know how to relate to others as they lament various sorrows in life, and to help us know how to share our own story. Does this make my pain less important? This is what Lysa shared:. 8220;Even as the closed doors and rejections seem more prevalent than the new opportunities yo...
