#seedlingwatch – My Allotment Challenge
https://myallotmentchallenge.wordpress.com/2014/03/04/seedlingwatch
Adventures in growing fruit and veg. March 4, 2014. March 12, 2014. Watching seedlings emerge and grow becomes a preoccupation of mine during spring. I find their daily unfolding more rewarding than their final harvest. Tips of pea shoots poking through the soil. Cotyledons of bean plants unfurling. A rash of little lettuces springing up overnight. Worthy of many little trips to inspect during the day. Like a blank canvas, only muddy…. Rain, at last →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Adventures in growing fruit and veg. My allotment challenge – progress. April 20, 2014. April 21, 2014. This is a busy time for plotholders. There is always another seed to get ready or crop to plant out. The pleasure of growing food is that you are never done. The possibilities for pottering, and procrastination, abound. And I am feeling quite pleased with my. A list of what I am hoping to grow:. Priorities: Peas, beans, gem squash, potatoes, lettuce, kale, courgettes, beetroot, garlic, spinach. Follow ...
Sprouts & Shoots – My Allotment Challenge
https://myallotmentchallenge.wordpress.com/2014/04/22/sprouts-shoots
Adventures in growing fruit and veg. April 22, 2014. April 22, 2014. For the last few years, I have had great success in growing peas in pots around the garden. Main crop, mangetout, purple podded, some spilling over pots, others climbing up trellises. Most often, they would not make it from the garden into the kitchen – like a grow-your-own sweet shop where no-one says “no! Lead me to a cheaper alternative using supermarket marrowfat peas (the kind used to make mushy peas). Grow pea shoots from a box of...
Garden Pesto (WARNING: contains pea shoots) – My Allotment Challenge
https://myallotmentchallenge.wordpress.com/2014/05/02/garden-pesto-warning-contains-pea-shoots
Adventures in growing fruit and veg. Garden Pesto (WARNING: contains pea shoots). May 2, 2014. May 2, 2014. We use pesto quite a lot in our house, beyond dressing pasta for a quick meal. Spread on bread it lifts an ordinary sandwich. It is also a great match for grilled salmon and roasted new potato wedges. This year, I have been making my own, using some seasonal alternatives to basil. Kale and walnut pesto. Was a delicious, deeply earthy version (and a great way to use up the large quantities of kale y...

Beware of the Flowers! Coz I'm sure they're going to get you……….YEAH! The results are in! That competition I entered – The annual event organised by the Leeds and District Allotment Gardener’s Federation to find the best allotments in the city……. A letter came through the post today with the results………. How do you think I did? I’ve worked my little socks off to reach this point…. 😉. Crop Quality (40% maximum). Maybe I need to concentrate on ways of bringing more pollinators on to Plot 29 next year….
