A New Yorker in the country. A conversation about books. Classics Club 5-Year list. Friday, May 16, 2014. R L Stevenson's Kidnapped. I enjoyed the beginning of Kidnapped,. But I have to confess that I thought it dragged in the middle and the ending was a little too neat. I think this is due, in part, to the fact that I have never really caught the sea-story bug. Kidnapped. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Autobiography of a Corpse. Children of the Arbat. J R R Tolkien. Lord of the Rings.

Quite aside from the role it plays in the make-up of my course, I had forgotten how much I enjoy the novel. Here's the numbers breakdown:. Total pages so far: 163. I'm reading: Dorothy Dunnett, Niccolo Rising.

I've got a couple of books that I'm close to finishing, including Howard Jacobsen's new novel J. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Autobiography of a Corpse.

A New Yorker in the country. A conversation about books. Classics Club 5-Year list. Sunday, April 27, 2014. Iain Banks' The Wasp Factory. I came to The Wasp Factory. By way of two of Iain Banks' Culture novels, Consider Phlebas. And The Player of Games. Somewhere in the middle of the novel, it becomes painfully obvious that the novel will end with some stunning revelation. I was not able to anticipate the revelation, and was very surprised by the twist the narrative took. Links to this post. Nothing more...
