The church at Laggan. We quickly ascended uphill through some farms and came out onto moorland. This is the landscape I was waiting for. Dark, broody, uninhabited, and absolutely stunning…. On our last day in Edinburgh, Sarah and I have decided to climb Arthur’s Seat and then head for the Museum of Contemporary Art. As we started walking towards Arthur’s Seat, we passed this charming cottage on St. Leonard’s Lane, right in the middle of Edinburgh! On our longish walk to the Museum, we spotted this interesting fashion statement. A different way of thinking about men in kilts! A pretty typical Edinburgh street.

A topnotch WordPress.com site. May 28: Back to Edinburgh. June 30, 2014. Time to get the train back to Edinburgh. We will definitely miss the Highlands. Sigh! We take a late morning train from Aviemore Station. This was not our train (haha), but an excursion train that takes folks on a trip through Cairngorms National Park. Wish we had more time…. To my dismay, we found a real dearth of kilted men in Scotland, but I managed to get this blurry picture of a taxi driver loading the trailer pulled by his cab.

Thursday, May 22, 2014. We survived day one of the East Highland Way. No rain, yay! Though lots of clouds were present. Miles walked: 11.8 (or so). Steps stepped: 27,265 (or so). Temps: low 50s (perfect hiking weather, not too hot, not too cold - and a brisk breeze to keep the midges at bay). Adventures here and there, but one clearly cosmic moment of the day - hiking angels arrived just when we needed them - see in photo narrative below. Enjoy the photos below and cheers to all from across the pond.
