An amateur blog by an amateur foodie. It Ain’t Easy Being Greens. One night, back when Food Network. Still showed cooking shows (or maybe it was The Cooking Channel. We were watching Symon’s Suppers. On TV This was a great show, I wonder if it’s still on the air. He has such a fun time and a great personality…I digress. During the show he starts talking up one of his mother-in-law’s recipes for southern greens. You know, the bitter ones? I should know better by now, right? I don’t cook much because...

Portuguese Kale Soup » Dish dish
http://blog.catherine.gurski.org/index.php/2012/11/25/portuguese-kale-soup
An amateur blog by an amateur foodie. A couple of months back I had lunch at Au Bon Pain. And had their Portuguese Kale Soup. I’d never even heard of it before but the description listed chorizo, potatoes, and kale so I had to try it. It was delicious! Spicy and all-around flavorful. I couldn’t stop thinking about it but I couldn’t find a recipe that was how I remember the soup. I decided to recreate it. Bring the pot to a boil then pull the heat back and simmer the soup until the potatoes are tender....

Date Night: Isabella’s Taverna & Tapas Bar » Dish dish

An amateur blog by an amateur foodie. Date Night: Isabella’s Taverna & Tapas Bar. From the cheese menu we selected the Quesos Cabrales En Pan. This is a thin slice of Spanish blue cheese on toast, topped with fig jam. The blue cheese was amazing. It had a rich, smoky flavor. The fig jam was just sweet enough to balance the tartness of the cheese. This is an excellent choice! Be Sociable, Share! January 13, 2013. Laquo; Broiled Chicken with Sesame-Ginger Glaze. Broiled Chicken with Sesame-Ginger Glaze » Dish dish
http://blog.catherine.gurski.org/index.php/2012/12/02/broiled-chicken-with-sesame-ginger-glaze
An amateur blog by an amateur foodie. Broiled Chicken with Sesame-Ginger Glaze. The recipe calls for 2-2.5 pounds of bone-in chicken pieces (like the breasts, thighs, and drumsticks). I don’t do bone-in chicken. I decided to go for a pound each of boneless, skinless chicken breasts and thighs. When I got to the store I got to thinking that I don’t broil much and I could end up drying out the chicken breasts. I opted for 2 pounds of chicken thighs. 2 to 2.5 pounds boneless, skinless chicken thighs. Rinse ...

An amateur blog by an amateur foodie. March 5, 2014. Man, it’s been a while since I posted. Okay, so 13 months. Mostly I haven’t known what to post. An amateur blog by an amateur foodie. Date Night: Los Toltecos. I haven’t done a “Date Night” post in ages. Mostly because we started cooking at home more so there were fabulous recipes to post. This post tonight? It needs to be done. Tonight we ate at Los Toltecos Authentic Mexican Grill. The food. Holy jeebers did we ever eat in Mexico. Since we can’t really afford to keep going to Mexico we have to fall back on the food. So we keep searching. Los Toltecos House Margarita on the rocks. They use Cuervo ...
