Spain Archives - Navigating By Joy

http://www.navigatingbyjoy.com/tag/spain

Learning, laughing and loving together. A Homeschooling month in Spain – Part 2. I sit on the floor, surrounded by half-packed suitcases. It’s 4pm on a rainy Sunday afternoon, and outside the sky is darkening as the sun sets. In three days I will be climbing into our Ford Galaxy with my 11-year-old and my 10-year-old, and driving to the other side of Europe. Packing these same suitcases, my head will be full of new memories. What adventures do the next five weeks have in store for us? Has J(10), who hasn...

Learning, laughing and loving together. Chemistry for kids – How to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen using electrolysis. We’ve all been told that water is made up of hydrogen and oxygen. But how do we really. Can this wet substance that quenches our thirst and cools our bodies on hot summer days really be made up of two. The mysterious case of the missing oxygen,. How to separate water into hydrogen and oxygen. Glass or plastic tub. 2 test tubes (with lids if possible). Bicarb of soda (1 tbsp).

Learning, laughing and loving together. How to make quick crystals. Every summer when I declutter my science supplies cupboard I come across a few hidden treasures. (The reality: Oops, we never did get around to making shadow leaf prints / home made light bulbs / popsicle stick trebuchets, accompanied by a pang of guilt. Is that just me? Email landed in my inbox. A few months back:. A salt is created when an acid and a base neutralise each other. All you need to make quick crystals. Epsom salt (1/2 cup).

The Amazing Water Trick - Investigating Density - Navigating By Joy

http://www.navigatingbyjoy.com/2014/01/19/amazing-water-trick

Learning, laughing and loving together. The Amazing Water Trick – Investigating Density. This fun science trick demonstrates that hot and cold water have different densities. The demonstration reminded my kids that lower density liquids float above higher density liquids. They learned that hot water molecules move faster and further apart from each other than cold water molecules. The trick also allowed us to revisit the topic of surface tension and to build on the air pressure science. Hot and cold water.

Fun Science - What Dissolves? - Navigating By Joy

http://www.navigatingbyjoy.com/2013/07/14/fun-science-what-dissolves

Learning, laughing and loving together. Fun Science – What Dissolves? Following our free-style potions session. This week we played with dissolving solids in water. Our focus this time was on exploring rather than scientific accuracy – I wanted the kids’ imaginations and curiosity to be sparked. Bowls containing a variety of solids, including instant coffee, gravy granules, salt, caster sugar, sand, flour, sprinkles (two types) and gummy bears (guaranteed to elicit interest). Large jug of hot water.

Navigating by the stars. Finding my way through life, faith and Home Education. Sunday, 29 April 2012. My little one is nine! She is such a big, grown-girl. She's handled some tricky stuff this year and come out smiling. She rises to a challenge and overcomes her fears. She's responsible, careful, compassionate and passionate. It is almost impossible to believe that we are at the end of March, past the spring equinox and enjoying the sight of new-born lambs. Navigating by the stars. Finding my way through life, faith and Home Education. Thursday, 10 April 2014. Calcium - who knew? It's a long time since I've been here - a really long time! The last photo is of my son's 14th birthday and I am now mulling over what to do for his 15th. It's tricky, because I'd like to take him to the theatre but I will only just be out of hospital and, possibly, recovering from open chest surgery. And that, I guess, it's what has really defined this last year. I'm also working ...

When they are excited about grasping vertically opposite angles, or proving the formula for interior angles or writing an essay comparing Shakespearean sonnet form to Spenserian, my confidence flashes for a moment and is gone, like a match flame. When they are bored, or sneaky, or ungracious, or can't recite their times-tables, the slow-burn of my fear deepens. Reasons I Home Educate. Trying to find Me.

Navigating by Faith | A view of the world through the eyes of faith

A view of the world through the eyes of faith. Posted May 3, 2015 by kevingdrendel. I am new to blogging, though writing is part of my profession and an interest I have had since I was young. There is something in the discipline of writing that sharpens ideas and fleshes them out. I have been on a faith journey since I emerged from the haze and confusion of adolescence. Much of the haze was self-induced. Be the first to comment. What of Rupert Sheldrake? Posted August 16, 2015 by kevingdrendel. Dr Peter ...

Learning, laughing and loving together. 8 Things I Wish I’d Known When We Started Homeschooling. May 8, 2017. When we started homeschooling seven years ago, the only other homeschoolers I knew lived five thousand miles away. My instinct told me that public school was the wrong environment for my son, who at four years old was already known as ‘the naughtiest boy in the class’. And my intense daughter (six), clearly needed more downtime than her busy schedule could provide. To continue reading. 🙂. If Jas...

Navigating by the stars. Finding my way through life, faith and Home Education. Tuesday, 22 April 2014. Looking back, looking forward. Change can come suddenly, unexpectedly, catastrophically. Change can creep slowly, erosion over time, unnoticed until comparison with the past forces focus. Today, it was the cheese. navigatingbythestars | Just finding my way

Just finding my way. July 5, 2012. I thought I missed blogging and I thought I’d be glad to get back into it but it’s been, what, a week? It’s a sign of how fragile life is right now. Last Tuesday a normal rush out of the house turned into an all-out fight, a broken day, and nearly a week of rebuilding. So easy to see the steps that got us there, so difficult to change them in the moment. Progress towards Maths and Biology iGCSE. Cycling including sponsored ride to Kingston. Trip to Italy and France.
