Life on the waterways with NB Oakapple. Sunday, 16 August 2015. Hot days and Baking Days. Wednesday was the hottest day for ages. We decided to catch the bus to Chester for the day. Big mistake! It was hot, the bus took an hour to get there, and it was crowded. I have never been in Chester when it wasn't. Still, it was a day out and it is always good to walk the walls of this fine old city. The friendly lockies soon had us through the locks and we moored at vale royal to enjoy the peacefull views. The su...

Life on the waterways with NB Oakapple. Sunday, 9 August 2015. Since my last post we have covered the rest of the 'Shroppie' and are now on the Middlewich branch heading for the Trent and Mersey canal. The Shroppie is a canal of mixed scenery. Some very deep cuttings and also some impressive embankments. The weather has been mostly kind this week with some warm spells to sit out at the fine mooring places with picnic benches and BBQ stands. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Life on the waterways with NB Oakapple. Thursday, 30 July 2015. From Sunday roast to all you can eat breakfast! On my last post I said we were staying at Fradley for Sunday. Unfortunately our batteries needed topping up, so, since the sun was not shining on the solar panels it seemed sensible to move on, as we would have to run the engine anyway. In the afternoon we visited nearby Shugborough Hall which was the home of Patrick Litchfield, a sixties icon and photographer to the royal family. It was unseas...

Life on the waterways with NB Oakapple. Monday, 29 June 2015. Off to the Braunston Show. Well, the weekend finally arrived. The best free show on the waterways. Well, probably the best free show anywhere, in my opinion. After moving out to bridge 88 we settled in to wait for the weekend. The Captain caught up with some jobs, like painting the plank and poles, as well as varnishing the porthole inserts. All jobs he promised to do before we left Stone. Still, they are done now. After the parade there was, ...

Life on the waterways with NB Oakapple. Thursday, 26 February 2015. Yum yum, eating in Staffordshire. Yesterday we had planned to go to the Three Crowns Pie night, just up the road from Aston Marina with Sue and Andy from NB Festina Lente, however, after a last minute change of plan, we drove to the 'Radford Inn' on the Staffs. and Worcs where they do a daily carvery for under a fiver. It was an excellent meal and super value. Thursday, 19 February 2015. The sun was still shining on Monday and we caught ...

Life on the waterways with NB Oakapple. Sunday, 25 January 2015. All the usual suspects? It has been a quiet week. We were promised some of the white stuff, but in the end it was just damn cold. The marina iced up again and we were woken up one morning by the swans crunching through the ice like a fleet of icebreakers. On Friday we met up with all the usual suspects at the Exchange in Stone for a pint or three. It was the usual hilarious gathering, almost breaking into song at one point. Since the excite...
