They wouldn't let Ray Treacy and his Providence women in either, so at least we were in good company. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. My qualifying exam talk. Running with a pencil: October 2011
http://dianadavis.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html
Running with a pencil. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Saturday, October 22, 2011. The best running photo of me, ever (yet). Here it is. It wasn't a great race for me - I had lingering effects of a cold, and while I battled back and forth with the same four women from mile 2 to the end, all four of them ended up beating me - but at least this awesome photo came out of it. I look like I deserve my elite number! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. My qualifying exam talk.

Running with a pencil: July 2011
http://dianadavis.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Running with a pencil. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Friday, July 22, 2011. The rainiest race yet (Bobcat Bolt). June 25, 2010. This is a race that has caught my eye for a few years: a 5k and 10k, nearly in my hometown, with plenty of prize money. We knew that Lesley, Dan and Bob would be doing the 10k, so Alan and I did the 5k. The race start. Photo from Foster's Daily Democrat article. At about 1.75 miles, she tucked in behind me to draft, and from there she slowly drifted back...

Running with a pencil: March 2012
http://dianadavis.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Running with a pencil. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Thursday, March 29, 2012. Tempo race=PR (New Bedford half marathon). I received a free entry to this race courtesy of the very kind race director, Dan, whom I met at the Rock 'n' Roll Providence half last summer. Since I was somewhat out of shape from being injured and running low mileage in February, I was planning to run the race as a long run. Long run, no pressure! With water stations and a medal, sounds like fun! The other ben...

Running with a pencil: November 2011
http://dianadavis.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Running with a pencil. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Monday, November 14, 2011. Eight good miles (Seacoast half marathon). Well, this was quite an embarrassing race for me. You never want to be the one who goes out too hard and dies, and that's certainly who I was yesterday. On the other hand, you can only run a course record if you try, and I certainly did try. I started out at a comfortable pace, and I could tell that there were a few other women behind me. I was feeling so com...

Running with a pencil: American luxuries
http://dianadavis.blogspot.com/2012/11/american-luxuries.html
Running with a pencil. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Luxuries of living in the United States that I will appreciate more when I go back there:. Toilets that flush on the first try (without having to lift the handle up before pushing it down). The option to wash your hands with warm water (rather than very hot or very cold). Lamps that have a switch on the lamp itself. Eating dinner without worrying that you're wearing the wrong thing. I am a graduate stude...

Running with a pencil: August 2012

Running with a pencil. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Friday, August 31, 2012. Rock n Roll Providence. 1:22:01 for 5th, 19 August 2012) When I started running, our coaches taught us that when you get faster, improvement is incremental: as a fifth-grader, you might improve your two-mile time from 19:00 to 17:00 in one week, but as an eighth-grader you should be equally happy with a seemingly smaller improvement from 13:10 to 12:50. All right," I thought, "I'll just jog in the last five...

Running with a pencil. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Sunday, July 22, 2012. Finished on the 50 (Harvard Pilgrim 10k at Patriot Place). On race day.). The race was in the evening, so it was hot. Alan and I warmed up by running around the parking lots for the football stadium. There were about 7,000 people in the 10k and 5k races combined. I saw Bill Rogers on the starting line! I wondered. I didn't feel like I was going that fast. As we neared the stadium, I got a biker! This guy bike...

Running with a pencil: June 2012

Running with a pencil. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye. Thursday, June 21, 2012. On Sunday, the USATF New England outdoor track championships took place at Regis College. Let me just take this opportunity to opine that Regis College's track facility is extremely nice. There are signs telling you where to go, and the throwing area is on the far side of the track. You can't run under 17:00 unless you run 2k under 6:48, and that I did. Then I sat in my car for a while to get out of the sun...
